GLOBAL
Returning soon to Christchurch…

Are you Christchurch’s best kept secret?
While submissions have been permanently open since our last event, we are now once again driving for act submissions in preparation for the return of Global to Christchurch.

For those who missed our last event and the hype surrounding it; Global is a large scale dance event which features two Christchurch artists as headlining acts. There is a multitude of understated talent in this town and we are dedicated to bringing it to the crowds at quality events that showcase great atmosphere and superb value for money.

We offer our selected acts the opportunity to be heavily promoted as key selling points to our event, and various perks associated with being a headlining act, including but not limited to and extended set, increased fees and general pampering for the evening.

For this event we are taking submissions from artists primarily in the following genres:
Breaks, Electro, Trance, Psy-Trance, Hard Dance and Techno

What we are looking for in a submission is a website, or at the very least a Myspace page, a current Mixset, and a press kit including a biography and photos. Without these you will not even be considered. But you will also be judged on your overall marketability as an artist (i.e. Production, Promotion, gig experience etc.) and any gigs we see you play at prior to the cut-off date (Please try to include upcoming dates with your submission).

Your name will feature in large type on all advertising material, along with photos and biography. This is a great chance for you to add value to your name as a performer and add to your following.

If this sounds like you and you’re ready to make your mark on the Christchurch Dance Scene please submit the following:

Damn Biggie timed out when I tried to post this last time so here's the short version!

To add to Chris's post:

Since the last Global we have received several submissions from various DJs, mostly just containing a single link to a new mix set or even just a "Oh, can you hook me up? You know I'm good." type e-mail. I'd just like to highlight this as something were very unlikely to consider. From our perspective we'll invest a lot of time and money into promoting you and at the very least we would like to see you attempt to promote yourself first. Most of the DJ's on the international circuit have a good PR agency dedicated to presenting and marketing them correctly and this is largely what will break them into the circuit. We're not going to prick crap DJ's with amazingly designed biographies, we'd just like to push the CHCH DJ's that want this opportunity and who are good DJ's to be the best they can be as DJing is no longer just about DJing its about the overall package and value you can add to a promoters event.

Presentation is key, even if your not an amazing designer a nicely formatted word document saved as PDF would do wonders. Make sure you include photos at past events, JPG's of flyers from events you've played at, defiantly name any big previous events you've played at and any others that are applicable etc etc basically include anything and everything that could sell you that slot. As an example Anubis (a previous headliner) submitted a printed bio, lastest demo CD, flyers for previous events and tickets to his next event to see him play. It appeared that he'd actually put effort into his submission, his CD was great and he had marketable aspects to his biography. This is what we want to see.

For those of you I've txt about submissions the above applies to you too!

Happy submitting... Mr. Green

If you can't DJ properly you won't be picked. As I said, were just looking for DJ's that are willing to extend themselves and selection will be based upon all aspects. There are a multitude of really good DJ's in CHCH, we just want this opportunity to goto people who are willing to promote themselves.

For example, imagine there are two identical companies (hold EVERYTHING constant between the two, market share, sales, company size etc etc) both trying obtain a partnership with say Vodafone to launch a new (identical) product. Company A slaps together a document about themselves, doesn't necessarily remember to submit all aspects of their company, uses poor grammar, puts information in an inconsistent order and prints it on a black and white A4. Company B however puts together a comprehensive list of mutual benefits that will result from the partnership, spends time and money on creating a well designed proposal across multiple mediums, has set all information out in a logical order and finally doesn't just submit the proposal but stages a presentation to Vodafone. Who's Vodafone going to pick? The company that just did the bare minimum or the company that put a decent amount of effort into presenting themselves to a high standard... Further more, which company will Vodafone really want to associate themselves with, remembering the appearance of their partners will rub off on them?

On another note Mr. Green

Ryan Lott has this to say about the last Global:

quote:
'damn straight it's worth submitting an entry into global, for those who didn't, their foolish...
It's a good feeling headlining a gig and having your name plastered here, there and everywhere.
Plus playing main set in Christchurch's biggest and best venue, well thats hard to beat, and for a small scene opportunities like that don't come around very often.

Do it!

Would you accept a mix submission on a pen drive? No return of course. Just easier than on multiple cds.

"We're not going to prick crap DJ's " lol sorry just made me laugh.

If I enter would my submission be taken seriously and avoid being put straight in the rubbish ?

What's the approximate date for Global?

I'm off to the States for Burningman on Aug 21st and then afterwards hanging around SF, NYC, and DC looking for gigs while doing some contract work over there. Probably won't be back in New Zealand till end of Oct.

My schedule is such that it's hard to find time to put together all the press kit details, but if the timing for Global is right then I'll MAKE time.

I've got a funky Lemur that wants to be let out of the cage.

Hi all.... As having headlinhes this event in it's opening as Dj Anubis, I strongly urge those who would like the opportunity to break out of the bedroom and get into the clubs to submit an entry... This was a great event for me and all other Dj's who were part of it. I suspect that after the success of the first one, this one shall be even bigger, as everybody I talked to on the night was raving about it, and already asking questions for when the next one wouold be !! So... get off yo ass's, make a demo and get in there !!! You will not regret it ... Peeth, Anubis
