Are there any websites that give you the perfect setting for tvs?

Use your eyes bro. Razz

Differs by TV. I searched on my specific TV to get a guide to start with then went from there. Happy with it now.
But definitely change it from out of the box, sharpness will undoubtedly be way up, colours tend to be out.

If you want to go all out - calibration DVDs here: http://www.rapalloav.co.nz/products.php?cat=29

35inch Toshiba... apart from Sony which was at least $1000 more than any other model as it had freeview, it was next best on floor.

Right, so new one? What's the model? Cause if it's international you'll probably find it's ideal settings are on the web.

I've gone blank, will look when I get home Smile

Yeah, is easier and cheaper than full on calibration DVD.

www.avsforum.com seems to have a good chunk of settings.

It's a Toshiba REGZA 32av500

If you have a good collection of DVD's it's a fair bet that some of them will have calibration settings buried in the extra's section. They'll usually do most of the job and then it's an easy job to tweak it from there.
One of the best things you can do is back the sharpness right off. On a scale of 1-5 I'd have it set around 2.5 or so

I hear new tvs have these fangled brightness/contrast/colour controls.

Oh yeah chopper, good call.
A quick search didn't turn up calibration settings for that sorry man, but have a look around

I tried some settings for other toshiba models, not sure yet, will try some more on weekend.

I have a hardware calibration system for my monitors. I calibrated my LCD TV which was on the analog out of my PC, it was definitely more accurate. I use the TV mostly to show my customers photos - i'm a professional photographer. I turned calibration off, the default was less accurate but looked better. I don't much care what's accurate on the TV, I just want it to look good. My monitor's calibrated so my prints look choice, bro.

I used the settings for a model close to mine, then adjusted it by eye... think I got pretty close Smile

The biggest thing tends to be turning off all the absurd "enhancements", especially if you have a digital TV source (Sky, Freeview)

Yep good advice. Stuff like digital motion control can really over-process the image

yeah that's what my point was (I know it was obscure, thought I might get challenged).

You need calibrated colour for workflows where colour is critical and your are moving images between devices... but for watching TV/movies? It just needs to look pleasing.
