Ive been searching the internet and there appears to be an excessive amount of job websites.

I need to narrow down my job search websites.

What are the best overall job websites to use or specifically for IT and beauty therapy.

You help is much appreciated Smile

I gotta level with ya matey, having worked at times with several HR departments over here and also used those websites myself; IMO no one really looks at them.

The reason is that there are thousands upon thousands of people in the UK and through the EU who register their CV on them (monster, etc) and if you’re looking for one person, you don’t want to be wading through 500 CVs that match your search parameters (or usually much much more) before whittling them down to 6 people for an interview. You just don’t have that kinda time. That’s why HR departments get an agency on the case – and most agencies have their own pool of staff to choose from.

You’re better off finding good agencies through word of mouth; there are a few people around here in IT that should be able to point a few your way.

cheers for the info, ive already got one place that baynsey hooked me up with... hmmm now where did i write that down..... Confused
[quote]
pretty hard to apply for anything until you get over here... recruitment agents don't want to know (unless you have the best CV ever)... they won't to meet you, decide in 5 minutes if they think you're a muppet, then put you up for 100 jobs which you're not qualified for...

what sort of IT are you looking for?
[quote]
Anything that pays more than 25k per year heh

But specifically desktop admin, network admin, sys admin, in a linux/unix enviroment preferred, however i can still goto the darkside and work with windows servers if i must Smile

And a job where i dont have to wear a suit ! In this case ill do pretty much anything as long as it pays well Very Happy

Which leads me to my next question, whats it like in london when it comes to office jobs, is it all suits and ties or ?
[quote]
You'd probably be looking at starting around 20 - 22k... NZ experience means squat over here...

office environemnt depends on the company of course, but most techies don't have to dress up...

We found Reed really good- the Cannon St agency were fab, they have contracts for eg Lloyds TSB and Royal Bank of Scotland.

Good luck- its always hard getting that first bit of work over there!

Very Happy

Hey

It took about a month to get a job, i found pretty much every other site i tried accept for jobsite.co.uk to be useless.

I applied for 50 odd jobs thru reed didnt even hear back from anyone.

As soon as i listed my profile and cv on jobsite my phone rang non stop till i got a job.
hell it still rings now heh

I dont think u will have a problem getting a job in IT support. Very easy infact !

Good luck !

[quote]
Lucky for some, I'm having no fcukin luck, no decent jobs around and the pay is crap compared to what I can get back home. Godammit!
[quote]
in what line of work?
[quote]
Marketing

Man the pay over here is rubbish, I'm being paid about the same as I was back home when you just convert it for exchange rate, booooo!

If you're dealing with agents / recruitment companies the thing to remember is they are all pretty crap and have hundreds of people on their books.

1. hassle them daily first thing in the morning
2. be really clear and firm about what you want job wise or they will put you anywhere to get their commission
3. hassle them again !
