'funky' house.....

just a little pet hate of mine....

I HATE how all house music is refferred to as 'funky' house by some people, it really really annoys me.

there is more to house music than 'funky' house

i think that house music as a whole is just more funkier than other genres, so that's why it gets generalized like that.

but i definately agree with you, there is more to house than "funky" house. & what exactly is "funky house" anyway?

when analysing a certain house sound, I like to
slot it into Country/City of origin: and then
reassess style accordingly.
Afterhours: Chicago house, for the club
Drop Music: UK house, US influenced focus alot
on the drum and bassline patterns.

Yeah Niel I get your point but people may not like ALL house music and prefer the funkier tunes. Sure as a genre its 'funkier' but they may infact be specifing their particular flavour of house music as opposed to darker house, or harder house music.

I usually refer to house as either "house" or "funky house". And if you're talking to people who either dont know the differnces or dont care then that seems to be a suitable term

I call house, house - no need for the funky bit - if they don't know what you're talking about - how will the word funky help.

Its only been the last year or so the term funky has been applied to house....

I sometimes use the term real house, nu house was used a lot in the UK to descibe labels like Nuphonic & Faze Action in particular (us kiwis seem to prefer to call this style noodles).

I don't really consider Hard House a house genre (ithe name is not representitive) - which is more the new verion of Hi NRG - anyone remember that from the late 80's?

I have Heart Of Glass on 12" from about 89 in this format - hideous, but a brilliant novelty tune.

There is more to house music that funky house but it's a good generalisation.
