French House - What Happened?

When I first started buying tunes in 99, 90% of what I got was French - these tunes easily still hold my top 5 tunes of all time - there was soooo much quality stuff coming out of France. Highlighting this even further - picked up Basenotic release 005 today - circa 1997 - must be a repress, and I can god damn well see why - the rizmix crew - what a fucken top record - would have to be one of my absolute fav's this year - which is saying something as it's the end of the year and this tune's 5 years old nearly.

Seems that quality french house has gone underground while bad voice box Daft Punk impersonators take the spotlight - or is that starlight?

Paris Is Sleeping - Respect Is Burning was one I used to play heaps when I bought it a few years ago...Bob Sinclar ( he still does it for me ), Fantom - "Faithful", that was a top tune too.

Quite liked Superfunk but they seemed to of disappeared...and Cassius.

But yeah, see where you're coming from. People are going to hear Starlight and Daft Punk and think that's all French House Music is about - when it's not. And plus I think Daft Punk totally lost it when they created that whole new image/whatever you want to call it where they claimed that the original members of DP were killed in some bomb explosion and replaced by robots...ah huh!!! Hmmmmm.

I suppose its like everything, someone does sumpin good so everyone copies it. Et de Crecy back when was definately the one, along with motorbass they did everything good out of France. They signed Air and Daft Punk to their label had Alex Gopher as a producer, produced the music for Mc Solaar' good record got stuff on Mo Wax when it was good as La Funk Mob. Not always housey butr always wikkid

tis quite good, like a fine bottle of champerz it takes a bit of the best of everything and creates a total experience.
