Anyone follow F1?

I just read that the Jordan team have had their disqualification (of Jarno Trulli) at the USA-GP overturned. It was for an over-worn undertray at the end of the race (i.e. the cars ride-height was too low).

Very good news as it jumps them up a position in the constructors table above BAR, meaning they will be more likely to retain their Honda works engines which they share with BAR...

Go the Jordans!!!

But Hey! (lemmie know if you need an explanation of the above)

Not a fan of Jordon nor the Honda engines, but my thoughts on F1 can be summarised as follows:

Michael Schumacher and Scuderia Ferrari - the best driver allied to the best team. What a legendary combination.

A driver who wins his fourth World Championship with four races remaining in the season just has to be a step ahead of his peers.

Combine this with a team that has returned to glory and is able to secure the Constructors Championship with a lead of more than 70 points over its nearest competitor, and you have an instant recipe for success.

Go Ferrari I say.

Isn't Schumacher siding with Maclaren next season? I'm sure I saw that on the news which is interesting to say the least.

Oh, and while I'm at it, Tommy Makinninan (I'm allow to spell it wrong its finnish!) has signed with Subaru also.

The german cobbler is staying with ferrari. Year 2 of 3 year contract....i think
2002 will be the Williams BMW year.....i think

Phunky Dave... sorry, don't think so.

The interesting thing next season will be (one for the engineering buffs out there) that it will be the second year that the use of Berylium in F1 engines is banned. (it's a super expensive metal, stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum)

The reason for it's bann as it was unfair on the smaller teams that some teams (i.e. McLaren) could afford to use it. Unfortunately for McLaren in 2001 the ban came AFTER they had developed their 2001 engine, possibly explaining their poor engine reliability and HP this year.

But for 2002 McLaren will have had the whole year to develop their engine without it... So no doubt they will be much more reliable.

And if they are we could see Kimi Raikonen winning races and proving many people wrong about his signing to McLaren to replace Mika Hakkinen.

But Hey! we'll see

Im a ferrari fan Smile
Ferrari are the only team to make thier own engine and chassis.

Watch out for montoya next season when he matures a bit (gets pretty angry it seems) he will be up there with the leaders.

Heheh, I saw Schumacher in his cart, goin' back to his roots. Was good for a laugh, and I must say I was pretty impressed with him getting third! Even so, if you were one of the guys who got 1st or 2nd, you'd be fucken stoked. "Woo, I kicked Schumacher's azz!"
[quote]
Schumacher finished third? I guess they don't have launch control on carts...
[quote]
Hahaha, yeah. Third probably isn't too bnad given the, umm, power and size difference between carts and F1. Tyre surface area is kinda smaller too. *grin*
[quote]
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups, but is it safe to assume you're taking the piss?
[quote]
Out of you? No. Out of Schumacher in little wee carts? Yes. *laughs*

*loses himself*

Bob re: "..Ferrari are the only team.."

No they're not.

Benetton (called Renault) make their own chasis and engine. They have develope a 110 degree V10 which didn't really do the damage this year (poked actually) but when reliability issues are overcome will be an interesting team to watch. If they are right about having a wider engine angle (others range from 75-100 degrees) they will have two years head-start on everyone.. kind of like they did when they first had a pneumatic valve return system in the early 90s.

McLaren also make their own. The chasis by Tag McLaren (which Mercedes owns about 30% of) and the engines by Ilmor Engineering, the racing arm of Mercedes Benz (which McLaren owns about 30% of).

He spun out after 15laps and retired with a broken engine.

Oh, hmm, perhaps I was wrong/confused. I don't know where I heard that "3rd" thing, maybe he was third after one lap or something stupid.

I retract my earlier statements of congratulations for Schuey. Smile

What about our own Scott Dixon, who has just
become Rookie of the year. Absolutley brilliant
for the young guy. Apparently he may be testing
for a formula one team soon. It would be so
amazing to have a Kiwi in Formula one,
especially if he drove for McLaren.

Yeah then i would neva get you away from the TV, you would watch reruns ova and ova again.

No way baby, you know I like to have the Tv off....
