Before you leave NZ check the expiry date on your drivers license. You CANNOT renew it overseas because the stupid NZ government spent millions on those crappy little eye-testing machines and will not accept the judgement of proffesionally trained optometrists.

Is New Zealand the only country in the world where your license expires within 5 years of getting it?
10 years is still short compared to UK where the first time you have to renew is when you're 70!
You must have got your license after the licensing laws changed. Evryone who already had a license had to renew it in the year they turned 25. Of course I only remember this stupid little fact now...
it depends on how old you were when you got it as to when it expires - i think its valid to each x5th birthday (25 35 etc).
When i got my licence i failed the eye test at the place but got doctor to recheck and pass me - surely you can still do that? Dont take no for an answer.
also i think you can apply to skip the L plate thing.
