I've just been reading what wikipedia has to say about various aspects of food and nutrition, then got linked to physical fitness, and have just been reading about various fitness tests.

Does anyone know how/where I could go for a fitness test or two? There is the multistage test (I remember these at school) which I suppose one could set up on their own or though a proper environment would be better, but also of interest is the VO2 max test. What other tests are there, and is the a formal environment to do them?

I just want to know where I'm at now and also perhaps compare it in the future as I keep progressing (er, I hope).

You can come to us (Uni of Auck Tamaki Campus) to get a complete VO2max done. Unsure about the costs but if you're keen it's a direct measure of your aerobic capacity. Whereas most other tests estimate your VO2max using hear rate and workloads.

Ghostbusters.

I might be keen for a fitness test too. They do/did VO2max tests at my gym but given how low-fi my gym is, I doubt they're particularly accurate.

Been a few years since i was there, but here the number 373 7599
ext: 82541. Im sure theyll be able to put onto the right person.

You could perhaps try getting in touch with the sport science crew out there. They do fitness testing as part of their course and would quite likely do it for free?

As far as other tests go, theres stacks of them.

All depends on exactly what youre trying to test, and how scientific and accurate you wanna get with them.

if you do a v02 max test properly...be prepared to spew.

in swimming, we used to do 30 min tests, which involved you swimming as far as you could for 30 minutes...you'd usually be hurting within the first 5 minutes, but could keep going. were pretty hard. another club i was at did 3km timed swims.
