Firefox + Transparent Flash

Well I have always been miffed at Mozilla not supporting transparent flash... and i've only just figured out that it now does (as of 1.0)... bit behind the times but... im a lot happier with it as a browser.. hhehe

I discovered last night the IE doesn't support transparent PNGs. Ah well, I don't really care if IE people have the graphics looking a little funny, I use Mozilla Plus it's on the graphics-lite version of the page, so they can put up with it until I get around to doing a decent fix.

its only everything under IE6 though isnt it? i thought IE 6 supported them?

It doesn't: see this LINK. There's a workaround, but it makes it incompatible with browsers that work properly. I don't like to use Javascript to detect browsers in case people have js turned off.

Im looking at a website with transparent PNGs, in fact... its a website all about transparent PNGs to show how they work and they're all... welll... transparent...

Did you read that bug report? Transparent png's don't work when you use an <img ...> tag, but if you do an IE specific workaround you can make them work. That workaround is IE specific, so you need to use Javascipt or a server-side script to make it work properly in all other browsers.

Take a look at the source of the page as check if they're using an img tag or the AlphaImageLoader. If it works post the link, i'd love to see how they did it.

There are heaps of pages dedicated to workarounds for this bug, and even a huge petition to M$ to get them to fix it.

Open that in both IE then any other browser to see the problem.

non-transparent flash is a real bitch when it appears next to pop-out DHTML menus....grrr.....
