I have my popularist mainstream driven moments

don't tell anyone
[quote]
Hmm there's a Jefferson Airplane one that's really good, I can't remember is its "Somebody to Love" or another one
Maybe a Beatles number
And a heap of stuff by the Velvet Underground

I like Earth Wind and Fire... and other bands.. dont think they're the 60s..

60s... I'm sure most of it is great I'm just not a mass fan.

[quote]

NO CONTEST! Only just scraps in as 60's though...officially released in 1970, but written 1969 Razz

i'll allow it Razz

good song.

i love most things soul/motown from the 60's.

Yeah i wanted to put up Cali dreaming, but i really love the beach boys version (even better than the original)... but they recorded that in the 80's.

Did you hear all that shit about the mamas & papas? the book the daughter wrote about how her dad had sex with her?

Thank fuck someone put Hurdy in there...one of the best songs of all time. The saturation on that track is mind blowing, plus he sings the same melody over two different chord progressions, aaaaand thats Jimi Page playing in Drop A!! The guitar not the hurdy gurdy (yes its an instrument)
Plus add some Who, Doors, Leonard Cohen, some of the wacky 60's Floyd, Lennon, and some Bowie.

Yargh they be valves in that thare tone.

Nah man, that sounds rough as guts. I knew old mama cass had 1 too many ham sammies but didn't know the old boy was stirring both pots. How valid are the accusations? Daughter could be a crackhead trying to flog books..
[quote]
I just went for some songs from some 60's genres/artists I like - choosing a top 5 60s songs would be impossible.

James Brown song sung by Aretha Franklin - from '67

Yep the daughter is a ex druggie. Forget her name, it's not the daughter from "Wilson Phillips", the other one. The dad's ex's have denied it, but the sister (lead singer of Wilson Phillips) has said she believes it. So it's not 100% true. There was a lot of shit in that book if i remember, about sex & drugs etc between the band. 3 of the 4 main members have died from drug overdose or related problems haven't they?

Speaking of Wilson Philips, here's another one from Daddy Brian Wilson.

Now here's a music thread I can abide! 60's >>>> 80's.

Sooooo hot ^^

Impossible to hear without thinking of The Simpsons. :>

Ahhh the 60's... Back when pop music was still cool and interesting.

How did the thread get this far without the Kinks?

And only one Jimi:

And no Zeppelin:

Lack of Cream sorely noted:

Also no Beatles, seriously?

[quote]
I was thinking of doing a Beatles only post and thinking what tunes I'd out in it but I was out and about so you beat me to it. Razz

This was recorded in 1969 although not released until 1971:

I always preferred this Jefferson Airplane song.

How it gets used in the Coen Brothers film: A Serious Man is just awesome. :>

My Dad's all time favourite song and one of mine too.

The best part of this clip is Keith Moon liberally taking the piss out of the mime acting they were forced to do. Watch his "drumming" it's hilarious. The way the host tries to maintain his cool through the bands relentless piss taking and his shock at the end when they destroy the shit out of their gear is just awesome.

The Who. God I love them.
[quote]
heh that's pretty cool.

watching old videos is goodness.

Who doesn't like to do The Twist?

This recording was made in 1973, and released in 1976 on The Song Remains The Same; but the album version was recorded and released in 1969. I posted it earlier but fuck this version is good, check the random nod to the hippy counter culture around the 6 minutes mark:
