If you had to put together a group of Wellington's dub, funk, jazz and soul musicians, you wouldn't get far before you stumbled across the finished product - Fat Freddy's Drop.

An ensemble of talented Wellington musicians from groups such as Ebb and TrinityRoots, headed by the mighty DJ Mu, Fat Freddy's Drop are organic travellers who fuse studio wizardary with soulful acoustic performance.

The result is never the same but always a tasteful and exciting improvised musical experience. The Fat Freddy flavour is rhythm heavy with coatings of jazz, soul and funk, rooted here in Aotearoa and delivered with an island attitude.

A flick down the collective resume finds two who are in Bongmaster, one member of TrinityRoots and one from Ebb - solo projects, turntable skills - and lastly trumpeter Toby Laing who, well, works with about 15 other bands.
While the limelight has to date been held by some members' other projects (including Ebb's huge EP release party and the debut album from The Black Seeds), it's the unfolding Fat Freddy's flavour which really deserves your attention.

Dallas Tamaira – Vocals

Toby Laing – Trumpet

Warren Maxwell – Saxophone

Tehi - Electric Guitar

Iain Gordon - Korg Trident

Mu - MPC 2000 and live mix
