Fastest handicap van in the world?

A friend of mine, by the name of Gerald was in a motorcycle accident some years back and suffered a spinal injury leaving him without the use of his legs, and limited use of his arms. When street racing was big out here (Vancouver BC) from around 1998 - 2001 you would see him out in his big Chevy Yukon. It was equipped with wheelchair lift, Hand controls for gas and brake, suicide knob on the wheel etc. It also had a supercharger and nitrous.

Testing his nitrous system resulted in a small fuel leak which ended up burning the vehicle to the ground while he was forced to evacuate the vehicle. Shitty luck but at the same time it allowed him to build up a real drag project.



The van has so far suffered from tuning issues which have kept it from running at full speed, however despite weighing in at 4300 pounds it has run low 11's in the 1/4 and yanks the front tires upon launch.

Vehicle has a wheelchair lift, full rollcage, tubbed wheel wells and a ladder bar suspension.

It makes around 800(crank) horsepower at the moment. It has received new custom headers and will be getting new Nascar style Brodix heads which should put the horsepower closer to 1000. It is also being plumbed for a nitrous system.

Once it gets a clean pass, low 10's shouldn't be out of the question. This is possibly the quickest Chevy Astro in the world. If not now, once the tuning is all sorted out. Kudos to Gerald for the balls to go through with such a cool project, a 1000 horsepower street legal wheelchair equipped juggernaut.
