Think they couldve done a bit better wiht their music videos - a Caddilac driving around Ponsonby at night has been a bit rinsed innit?

Im not convinced but big em up anyway for being a good keen bunch.

:/
[quote]
they've been gettin majorly dissed on the hiphopnz forum. nobody seems to like em.
me personally, i haven't heard much of there shit, apparently its pretty poppy. i'm not really gonna comment cos i went to school with two of em and know them pretty well. i know they put in heaps of effort, but you carnt expect anything to "street" from a bunch a kids who lets say, "grew up in rather affluent neighbourhoods"
[quote]
iight for real

Their stuff is a bit knick knack paddy wack jiggy boom bap if you nah meeeen.

[quote]
"Like Coke from a cola can - pop ... fizzy ... BANG!"

Need I say more?!
[quote]
Maybe I should ... "Up at Beat Merchants it's research" - researching what ... African urban youth?

ps Shotta J, Wot affluent neighbourhood do they come from?
[quote]
Junglist - How Bizarre ... you know who the last was to do the cadillac round Ponsonby Road ... maybe they wanna join the Otara Millionaires Club too.

LOL!
[quote]
lets just say tree lined streets close to the city.
we definatly ain't talkin trailer park white boys here.
[quote]
Aaaah white boys of the silver-spoon kind ... hmmm ... not a good look but oh well, good luck to 'em I say, they'll prolly need it.
[quote]
"good" school too.
b4 anyone asks i was one of the poor kids from sth auckland they dragged into this particular school cos i was good at sport. (and maths too! Smile; f#^k i wish i was still good at maths!!)
[quote]
Well at least they'll be able to "spell" they're lyrics correctly - even if they do have fuck-all to actually SAY!
[quote]
Hmmm they might give Psycho Acoustix a run for their money if nuffin else eh.

LOL Very Happy
[quote]
they're well disliked too ay?
[quote]
Hahaha yeah ... you must've heard Verbal Abuse from the Deceptikonz & RES?
[quote]
Yeah, theres some dissing there. I think it was from the RES, not decepticonz though.

Fast Crew.. um. I didn't like them the time I saw them at fu, but maybe I wasn't in the mood.
[quote]
Yer all because one of them pulled the finger at them at the sumit larst year.
[quote]
i like the chick, shes tight Smile

[quote]
Acoustix or Fast Crew?
[quote]
Speaking of Nz videos - the Unique video is a laugh, anyone else seen it?
[quote]
fuck all you fuckin critics the fast crew are phat.your only dising them cos they be middle class whit boys. whats ya fuckin problem. just cos their not trying to be thug street boys like all the dawn raid crew. If they suck so bad how come every gig they have done the dance floor has been packed.results speak, so be prepared the middle class silver spoon white boys will soon be on top. boooooouuuyyyyyaaaa bitch
[quote]
I thought I made my stance very clear with my quotes of their WHACK-ASS lyrics, not to mention their WANNABE G-FUNK sounding productions. Didn't mention shit about their class. Why? Cuz they have none.

Besides, don't sound like you're a fan - more of a member of Fast Crew or one of their mates. Unlike you, I'm only trying to put across an "objective" opinion.

In case you haven't noticed, all the Dawn Raid parties are also packed! Ill Semantics are fucking dope and don't try to be thugs at all so where do you get off dissing Dawn Raid for "trying to be thug street boys".

Boooooooooooouuuuuuyyyaaaa HO!
[quote]
YO HO!

The only reason they even PLAY at Fu is cuz the owner is their fuckin manager.

For your information Dawn Raid are doing amazing work giving so-called "thug street boys" encouragement and opportunities to have a go at something that's gonna make a positive difference in their life.

The difference between your "middle class silver spoon white boy" mates and Dawn Raid, is that Dawn Raid are using their music to make a difference and improve their community for real - not just for their own vanity and greed!

"Instead of just keepin it real, why don't you try bein true".

Boooooooooouuuuuyyyaaaaaa??? LOL!
[quote]
bla bla bla the truth is a better eduction means a better vocab which leads to more creativity fu;s owner may be the manager but do you think he would keep playing them if thay where not doing well.
[quote]
yo ho Why would sum1 got a good eduction call them self a ho?
[quote]
personally, i'm down for every kind of nz hip-hop. cos it helps develop our culture, no matter how shit it is.
fast crew are a'ight. they're havin' fun. i mean, u don't have to be poor to be good in hip-hop. puff daddy was rich. a bad example but he is huge.
i think the problem is, nowadays, with all this shite american mainstream hip-hop comin our way, we all want dope nz hip-hop to combat it. it ain't gonna happen. cos we too small to keep churnin out quality beats & rhymes. (unless ur scribe & p-money)

also, on another vibe, the chick in fast crew is weird. she doesn't get down on a hip-hop vibe. she looks like some rock singer chick.

but props to the fast crew, and any other nz hip-hop crews, emcees, dj's. mad props to verse 2.
[quote]
Right on the-juice. You're right you don't have to be poor to be good in hip-hop, I don't think anyone said that you did. I think what we've all been trying to say is that if you don't have anything to say that actually matters, then what's the point?

Bassho! A good education and vocab is all very well, but who said you need either of these to be creative, let alone positive and inspiring. That's bullshit.

All I'm saying is that if you have fuck-all to say, then you're totally missing the whole point of hip hop - to 'educate' the ignorant, and encourage free thought.

Yes I'm sure Fu's manager is laughing out loud at the money he's raking in from all those suckers - but that's just my personal opinion. We're all allowed one.

You love them so GO HARD!
[quote]
i don't know if anyone noticed, but when hip-hop first started, no-one had anything to say.
all the rhymes were about how dope an mc they were and how dope their dj was. anyone can say that shit. cash or no cash.

btw, i don't luv' them. i feel deeply insulted (not really but let's pretend)
i think they're cool cos they're havin fun.
[quote]
Hey Juice, I believe you ... honest. LOL! No worries I was referring to Bassho anyway.

Yep but rapping is just one aspect of hip-hop. Sure it did start off simple cuz it was just an accessible form of self expression (even for those without "better education" or a "better vocab". At the same time though, there's always been an underlying subculture thats reflected important issues of the time, whether they be political, social or economic.

All I'm saying is that so far, I haven't heard any of that influence from Fast Crew. But who knows, maybe they're just starting off simple too.

Junglist ... You've created a monster!

Very Happy
[quote]
nice comeback micello.

i was surprised that u didn't stab me with the old "but hip-hop has evolved and now it's more than that". but u're answer was a lot more intelligent.

ka pai e hoa.
[quote]
just add here that i wasn't making any judgement at all, just a comment on the fact that they are getting major disrespect on NZ's main hiphop site.
sure they're middle class honkys, thats what i meant by the pop angle, we certianly arn't talkin youth from otara here. (but then again theres plenty of poppy rnb stuff comin out sth auckland too).
i know they work real hard on their shit, so they at least deserve respect for that.
[quote]
No one ever said anything about having to have a message in your lyrics to "qualify" as hip hop - that's a ridiculous concept. Isn't it more about truth and expression?

In fact my initial reason for gettin in on this thread in the first place was to point out how so many people have lost the ability to think for themselves. If they are "middle class honkys" then so what ... but is this the image they're portraying of themselves, and if not, why not? Just a thought - not an attack!

For your information I'm certainly making an informed judgment as I have only ever seen them live. Not sure if I've heard the single (live or otherwise) and don't have a tv so definitely haven't seen the vid.

In any event, my "informed judgment" is based on the fact that in my view their lyrics are empty and pretentious, and their production amateur. Sure they're having a great time and if they're workin hard at it then of course they deserve respect for that, I don't deny it.

All I'm saying is they're not my cuppa tea.

You like 'em ... GO HARD!

I don't ... GET OVER IT!

[quote]
ohh yeah that dis on verbal abuse is a crack up.
wonder how long before sumone disses the FC in their lyrics?
if you actually knew the inside track on them like i do you probably would be givivng out the dissin micello Smile
i just don't want to unleash cos it'll piss people off and be way too funny.Smile
i'm guessin bassho knows mr baldy cos they live in the same suburb.
[quote]
I agree with micellos "starting simple" comment. The production is mostly not to the standard i would enjoy, but already the newer tunes have more sonic depth than the very basic first songs.

The Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill also recieved "souless white boy" comments when it came out - i think this similar assosiation will prove to be good for the FC in the future.

[quote]
haha. wondered wen someone was gonna bring up the beastie boys!
i think the FC are coming from a totally different angle from the beastie boys, the beastie boys were comin from a piss take punk rock angle (thus the dissin originally cos licensed to ill was a bit of a joke), were as the FC are stright up west coast dr dre fanatics, they take it real serious (unlike the beasties), which is prehaps a bit much for some to swallow.
[quote]
i know jeremy real well and i know just how serious he takes it. i know him well enuf to know that his surname seems to abreviated on their press releases! hahaha. i ain't dissin, just sayin theyr pretty serious. i've been outta the country for the past 4 months so i'm not up with the play on any new tracks...
i think alot of the bad vibes towards them on hiphopnz were to do with the fact they'd got a grant for recording an album. as i am aware they're also getting free studio time at redbull's studio?
[quote]
Beastie Boys are the phattest "white boys" from the planet or otherwise.
[quote]
READ THIS and then try and tell me its not a "real catalyst for positive change".

Awwwwwwwww ....

but I do it so well!

;D

Kurtis Blow

ps interesting read Smile keep it up
[quote]
Probably the "bad vibes on hiphopnz" to Fast Crew were basically because they are pretty wack.
[quote]
Music should never be judged upon sexuality, race, gender, whatever. So what if they're from Remuera and mom and dad paid for their setup ==> this is just an example, im not sure if they are or not.

My point, i've seen them twice down @ FU last year. I didnt like them, they were whack. Big ups to Sirvere for helping them out one night when their dj didnt turn up. What a top bloke!
[quote]
That should read 2 years ago, just realised its now 2003. Maybe they've improved since then, but from the comments i've read, I doubt it..
[quote]
i still like the chick Smile
[quote]
i just checked out their website.

their new track suck, but whoever made the instrumentals throughout the website gets a kai pai tino pai from me, i like them a lot!
[quote]
any pictures of the chick?
[quote]
acornm the loops on the website are just cuts from some of thier tracks
[quote]
slug - well i like the beats a lot. pitty the mcs dont appeal to me.

dr.know yes there is pictures of the girl.

forgotten the link look on www.fu.co.nz and click on the links section there to find their site.
[quote]
i think they are wack nuff said.
i think they look to young to be taken seriously.
and lyrics deffinately suck.
not disrespecting nz music but just cause they are local dont mean im gunna think they're tight.
syko accoustix have actually got some dope rhymes.
but fast crew just dont have the vibe or the flow really to get a respectable following.
[quote]
their beats are pretty tight, if theres one thing they are experienced in is making good beats (jeremy the one who also does there production is a bit of a cubase master from all reports), i know hes a huge dr dre fan.
they arn't that young either... well older than most people that use these message boards, and ruffly the same age as all the other nz mcs making waves at the moment, so that point ain't valid unfortunatly samsara, however i am not defending them. i ain't feelin there shit as a package, as far as i'm concerned they have made their rep as a live act thru their fu connections and are strugglin to take that into the domain of recording, plus the nz hiphop community arn't feelin them either so they will always struggle outside of fu IMO.
[quote]
all i know is when fast crew play, there is always about 100 of the hottest well dressed young ladies in town coming to dance for them....aint nothing wrong with that cred heh.

If only i had that sort of pull....ah well.
[quote]
slug - they're prolly all their friends, richass niggaz from the remueraz way hey hey..
[quote]
well i wish i had 100 hot young rich girls as my friends/fans/supporters heh Razz
[quote]
Young ladies?

Err... 18's the limit isnt it?

Anyways... they still think they're gonna get in tha video.

FAST CREW IS FOR KIDS.

[quote]
So you are a big fan then Junglist? Cos anyone under 25 is a kid to me Razz
[quote]
Slug:

[quote]
You started it

lol

<|:[X]-+--<
[quote]
Yah so anyway...love them "young" hotties Very Happy
[quote]
nah i mean they look young i know they is all like 23 and stuff but they still look lil and silly to me just cant take them seriously dont get me wrong im all about the flow but i just dont think they got it awn. in my opinion anyways....
Smile
[quote]
Personally , im not going to rush out and by there album. Lyrically I think there stuffs abit like that "new kids on the block had a bunch of hits" tip. In saying that the beat to that Mr Raido is kinda catchy I had the hook stuck in my head for a couple of days.

Good on them for getting out there and doing something I say. As to how 'hiphop' they are it's a bit of a mute point , diversity is what makes hiphop culture so great.
[quote]
I like that lil dude Theo hot damn he a crazy nigga
[quote]
The lasts two events I've seen the Fast Crew at, they're were wicked!Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but the 2000 odd people bouncing to their tunes at the Big Day Out certainly were enjoying it. Saw them at the Xair games on Saturday, all I can say is WICKED!!
