Exif editor/ renaming

Im using metamorphose to rename large number (6k+) of photos in pairs of Raw and JPEG with the date taken eg 20110410_IMG_7555. The problem is that I can name the jpegs using exif data but not for the RAW... metamorphose will take the date from exif or creation but the creation date is when I copied the files which is different to the windows 'date taken' info.

It really shouldnt be so fricken complicated but I want to make 'windows date' taken into 'date created'

or suggest another way (another decent renamer)?

Learn PERL or Python and do it yourself, they both have decent EXIF libraries.

FYI FREE Exiftool(command line) with or without ExiftoolGUI are both pretty fucking good. They cant write to some files but there nothing I wanted to do that I cant and a whole lot more than I had never considered.

Like sorting all the files into directories of year montha and date if you like.
