SPECTRUM DJ PROFILE - Tom Zero

Tom Zero began deejaying at the early age of 15 in February 2004 after attending some large all-age events. He became inspired to play the music he was passionate about in a club environment to the masses, and from there things have taken off for Tom.

Tom Zero at a young age is already proving a force to be reckoned with in the New Zealand Hardcore scene. From his debut early in 2005, through to his uplifting hardcore sets at Planet Hardcore, Tom has shown that he is a deejay with a big future in New Zealand’s dance music scene. As Planet Hardcore’s newest, and youngest resident, the future of hardcore looks safe in Tom’s hands.

Tom plays an expansive, eclectic style of hardcore, and prides himself on highlighting the ‘many’ different sounds of the genre. His sound is largely of the ‘swordy’ uplifting variety, however Tom is equally at home playing hardcore with a harder-edge, including a lot of hardstyle influenced tunes. Some of Tom’s favourite artists include; Brisk, Scott Brown, CLSM, DJ Sy, Cube: :Hard, Ultravibes, Re-Con, and New Zealand’s very own Kam & DamNation.

You can be assured that come Tom’s set at Spectrum, there will be a little something for everyone.

Quickly becoming one of New Zealand’s best and most sought after House Djs Mark has fast become a favorite among the Auckland clubbers for his ability to create an impressive and varied set every time he plays. Being able to play many genres of Dance music, from house to breaks as well as the many styles of progressive has seen Mark play at some of the biggest and most prestigious events.

Marks entrance into the world of dance music was almost destined. Always a lover of music regardless of genre, he was partner in an Audio/Visual supply company and was booked to supply video screens to a local dance party.

The journey from audio visual technician to VJ was a natural progression. The VJing work led to many hours listening to some of the worlds top dj’s and it was during this time that Mark realized his passion for dance music

After guesting at various clubs and parties, he was asked to co-host a weekly radio show on a then fledgling radio station, UPFM, this show is now one of the longest running and highest rating of this popular stations broadcasts. With his regular radio work, the bigger parties and clubs soon approached Mark.

Currently with a residency at Auckland’s hottest club, Code, as well as many bigger parties, Mark has now become one of New Zealand’s hottest and most in demand House DJ’s. As well as sets at many of Auckland’s top clubs Mark has been a strong supporter of radio. Originally one of the main DJ’s of UPFM, Mark has now moved on up to play weekly on Auckland based GeorgeFm. George Fm although based in Auckland is broadcast nationwide over the airwaves and worldwide over the Internet. In the very competitive radio market George is now ranked top 10.

His passion for music and talent behind the decks has not gone unnoticed by other promoters. With support slots for some of the biggest dj’s in the world (including Sasha) and plays at some of the biggest parties in New Zealand the only way is up.

With many excellent performances under his belt, and a nomination in the Nz Biggie Top DJ Competition, Mark is now producing music as well, along with a professional sound engineer he is beginning on the exciting road to making his own music. With some of his early remix and re edit work already being played by some of the other top local house DJ’s, his future is looking very promising.
