Now all the voting is done... make your predictions.

Greens with over 10%

National at 45%+
Labour at 30%+
NZ First at 5%+

Keep MMP !
[quote]
Nats 50
Labour 26
Greens 9
NZF 5

I voted Greens for the first time...I am hoping they get 10+ they would then be the first Green party ever in the world do manage that
[quote]
Keep MMP or will be FPP
[quote]
some of the scandanavian countries have pretty green parliaments don't they? i seem to recall germany may have as well?
[quote]
Yep, but not a "Green" party Razz (specifically the word Green)

[quote]
Looking like a NACT goverment... Less than year till my flight leaves for Perth! :>
[quote]
oh sweet, you'll arrive just in time to see the Australian Labor Party get the fuck dominated out of it.
[quote]
Yeah but it will take a while to undo most of the policies I agree with Razz

well presumably in those countries the word for 'green' is spelt somewhat differently in their languages.
[quote]
Im fucking gutted about the Labour party though...Goff is a pretty awesome guy imo. WTF is going to happen to NZ with assetts being sold off seriously WTF I really dont get what the kiwi National supporters are on...Though speaking to one of my delightful colleagues who pointed out people who vote against National are just jealous of rich people like him..we just want to see the rich taxed more. :/
[quote]
I do want the rich taxed more, and I know from research that it's better for them.
[quote]
Really low turn out for voting this term...fucking hell. Im turning it off once John Key leaves his fancy mansion.
[quote]
I was pretty unsure about Phil Goff up until the last week of the election. I think he showed he can be a real leader in the last week or so. Don't know where his other politicians were?
[quote]
3 more years of smug Key plus NACT

yuck Neutral
[quote]
Yep, stomach is churning quite a lot.
[quote]
3/4 isnt bad for predictions though.

Trying to focus on the positive, 13 reasons to be happy!
[quote]
Hrmmmm yeah. Phil Goff better not resign hes too good for that weve only just started to see his potential if he lifts his profile over the next 3 years I think and hope the tables will turn. 35% of registered voters did a no show today. wow Sad

They are on the "the asset sales relate to 1%-odd of the economy so isn't really that important except to people who think news coverage amount is directly related to actual overall economic importance" drug.

The only reason that was pushed around as being so important was that the two major parties were completely on opposite sides of the fence on it. For most other issues they're about 10 different from each other.

Totally pissed at them.

shocking statistic isn't it - 65% voter turn-out, lowest since 1880s

this is an indictment on not only the current government, but successive governments in NZ - a populace so disenfranchised, apathetic, and disempowered, that it doesn't feel voting will make a blind bit of difference to their lives, in any real or tangible sense

the majority of NZ knows that it will continue to struggle on from week to week (or virtually) regardless of which party is voted into power

Key's talk of a "brighter future" is a load of shit - brighter for his mates maybe?

unless you believe that a dim flickering lightbulb, about to be extinguished in the oncoming worldwide economic gloom, counts for "bright" Neutral

I was at a birthday last night and spoke to about 6 people didn't get around to voting. All were professionals in their 30s. They said they'd just been too busy during the day. Was surprising to say the least.

Just spoke to my little sister and she didn't vote either... Neutral

It was 73.2% according to news today.

Many Nats didn't bother so made little diff I'd say

A non vote is a vote for the status quo so that be the story here

Gonna beat the 2012 bug?
[quote]
Nah just will have finished my degree then. If there was a Greens/Labour coalition there probably would be quite a lot of work for me as they seemed to have a fairly solid idea for job creation based on research. National have no such plan and therefore there's nothing for someone in HR/Recruitment to do Razz
[quote]
Auckland Central, Epsom, Waitakere, Ohariu, Waimakariri, Tamaki Makaurau - all electorates where smarter left voting would have sent the seat to Labour.
[quote]
Mirrors the States some years ago, low voter turn out and a wtf result.

Now this election a few time made me think about STV but... that doesn't even have a look in thanks to both idiots and "tactical" voters (if there is much difference...)
[quote]
Ummm you're saying anyone who voted to keep MMP is an idiot?
[quote]
no, I'm saying that anyone who voted FPP as a second option is an idiot.

If everyone answered the question the way it was intended, well, we still might have FPP because people are a bit thick (obviously), but lets say they weren't thick and they didn't vote tactically. Perhaps it would have been a choice between MMP and say, STV. That's a message in itself that MMP is on the right track but it could do with tweaking. Three years to consider this, three years to consider the implications of an alternative like STV (especially in light of some of last nights results) three years to have dialogue, get educated, perhaps even make an incremental progression of general population intelligence. But no, what do we do? We make FPP a second choice. What a fucking joke.
[quote]
Plus, I fucking hate tactical voting. This is clearly a problem with MMP, as are wasted votes.
[quote]
Oh that makes sense then! Razz
[quote]
actually, the most popular second option was nothing. A large chunk of people voted to keep MMP and then just didn't vote on the second question.
[quote]
but it would appear that FPP has been given a showing of support, potentially enough to have it considered as an option. and the incumbents would probably prefer it, so yeh tactical voting is a dangerous play methinks.

How can you complain about the right being selfish when you are doing exactly the same?
[quote]
also, only the advance votes have been counted for the referendum, so we'll still have to wait.

Also, Smiley, I think tactical voting (I don't really like the phrase) is something that is great about MMP. You get to choose your local MP and you get to choose your preferred party. Why assume that they would be the same?

Wasted votes are a problem, but wasted votes were very small this election. That could be solved by lowering the threshold.
[quote]
Well I suppose I vote tactically too, in the sense that voting for a green candidate would have been a wasted vote. They got the party vote though. Really not fond of it though, it seems like just dealing with something slightly broken as best you can.
