I am looking for a chip for my series 5 rx7, to fix the boost cut and maybe give it a bit of extra go. Since i have fitted an exhaust the engine shuts down when i hit 10psi. its very annoying!!!! Anyone know a good place/person??

It may be a little more serious than that,

Things to look at:
* Getting bigger injectors / Fuel pump / Fuel pressure Regulator
* Wideband Oxygen sensor
* ECU upgrade

Generally a vehicle will do this when its sensors get outta wack... however .. at only 10psi cut out ... thats quite odd ... Im no rotary expert tho.

most likely just normal boost, I'm sure I saw a place to get your existing ecu chipped on the performance car forums, they claim it remaps your fuel, removes boos cut, speed cut, higher rev limit. cheap upgrade really, but if your serious get an aftermarket ecu.
I'm going that way.. been there done that with a MINES chip which is cool and all, but just not that well tuned really. Mr. Green

forget all the complicated shit, buy a boost cut defender done Smile

chips are all well in good and there a lots of places that do it, but if you are serious about the car and plan on keeping it for a while, becoz you have a rota I highly recommed a Microtech LTX8 computer, get the complete rewire loom version, the computer itself will be around $1500, I can tell you where to get one and who to talk to if your serious about getting a computer. Otherwise call a couple of performance tuners about re-chipping and they will recommend someone, I know gizzmo electronics do it but from personal experience I wouldn't go anywhere near them.

Remember unless you buy a standard chip upgrade you will more than likely have to put the car on the dyno, I can recommend a few good Dyno tuners if your keen.

yeah ive been having trouble finding a boost cut defender for a series 5. there are plenty of ones out there for a series 4 but none for mine. thats really all i need.

Nemy........the car and injectors are fine, the factory ecu cuts the fuel when it hits a certain boost level as a safety feature. They said that would be the case when i got the exhaust.

yeah a new exhaust on a turbo rota ups the boost more than your ordinary turbo piston

why do you need a series specific boost cut defender? they all do the same deal as far as i know, HKS make a good one.

im not sure, i would assume to fit the ECU. all the ones ive found say they fit a series 4. I have a gizzmo FCD but have no idea how to hook it up, and it said it only "masked" the real boost pressure from the ECU thereby leading me to believe that the ecu would not know how much boost was running, and therefore would not be able to supply the right amount of fuel. I might go see Kiwi RE as they are just down the road from me, but i have been hesitant cause i get the feeling they are gonna rip me off.

I've had delaings with Kiwi RE in the past, basically if you go stay the hell away from Greg and Alec Bell, they will feed you bullshit and they will overcharge you and potentially do a halfassed job, go chat to Warren, he's a good dude and knows what hes on about, should be able to point you in the right direction, basically having to play with standard ECU's is a bastard but if you must so be it, you'll need the Fuel cut defender and the boost cut to keep everything kosher but even then turning up the boost on a rotary with a standard ecu is dodgey (much more so than a piston motor) so just ask around before you do anything and good luck Smile

yeah i bought a boost control so i could wind it up to about 13/14 psi (ive been told these turbos will handle 15) so it looks like i will have to get a chip to handle it. ill give warren a call, i know what you mean about bullshit, one of the guys there told me i would need a new computer if i wanted to fit an aftermarket BOV! what a joke! he obviously hadnt met his microtech quota for the month!! Laughing

I know exactly what you mean, you've gotta watch the !@#$!*^% like a hawk and take everything with a grain of salt...

Kiwi RE 'fixed' my sway bar when the linkage snapped (heavy duty sway bars and standard linkages hehe) they cocked it up so bad the car handled like shit because the sway bar was so badly bound up the wheels would screech going slowly around roundabouts, got one of my engineering mates to show me how to do it all and fixed it sweet as, he said they did an ass of a job, be warey if getting them to install stuff, there are better people out there

yeah i met a guy from boosted performance last night who had a twin turbo lexus V8 in his toyota caldina. jesus that thing flew!! he also suggested i get a microtech, but im really not interested in working the car too much. ill go and see him later today, he rekons he can fit an FCD.
[quote]
ok, just be careful, I have heard very dodgey things about boosted... mates of mine know the owner, good luck, For performance work I recommend ST Hitech in Mt Wellington or Beyond Performance in Avondale Smile

there are other well respected dudes but I've used those 2 personally Smile

yeah to be honest ive been told to take the car to mazsport-cusco on the shore for serious work, but i actually like to do most of it myself (minor mods etc). i just dont have much of a clue when it comes to ecu's....im sure any donkey could fit an FCD but ill suss them out Car

Mazsport would be a safe option Smile They are well known.

The only rotary guys I've had dealings with are Kiwi RE (they did my last dyno tune and 'fixed' my swaybar) and Rotary Engine Specialists becoz a mate works there.

what kind of celica? GT4?

Why do you want to upgrade the ecu?
[quote]
nar not a gt4 a SS-ll 2L 5 speed, im slowly addin to it, so far got exhaust with exstractors n getting a cold air intake but i have heard a ecu upgrade is one of the best dollar to hp gain with spendin heaps, just wantd to get some knowledge about them

Sori meant without spending heaps Very Happy

Proper advice would be bin the motor and fit a GT4 one for real performance, not much you can do with a small NA motor, however you could get a new chip for your ECU which will be the cheapest option, its not really worth fitting an aftermarket ECU (your looking at around $1500 + installation)

Also new cams will help a lot. Much easier to get more HP out of a turbo motor than a NA
