Hmmm Appropriative Americanisation - we can liken this endorsed ideal of associating/copying American areas of Westside,Eastside, SouthSide with neighbourhood association in NZ, But common to use it in New Zealand is just freakin pathetic.
I find it to be very immature. Why is that we copy the shit from America????

Just like having gang colour association with "crips" and "bloods"????

Well i just think the whole thing about people saying West side and South Side is really really STUPID.

Lets invent and promote individuality!!!!!!!!!
Sure man i'm all for representing your area as long as its in a positive way !!!!!

Man these boards are the slowest Sad
[quote]
Yes they are Smile
[quote]
Yes they are.

I would agree but I never hear anyone from NZ use those terms except when they are being ironic.
[quote]
Then i hear alot of people that in your eyes are ironic but in my eyes are stupid Razz
[quote]
Fuck i live in Stupid City
[quote]
Yeah, Auckland.....
[quote]
Hell yeah i hear people from Auckland using these terms. And yeah it's stupid....but you know, whatever floats your boat.

I grew up in South auckland, and i remember i'd hear it in school.

'Southside pride'
'southside 4 lyfe' (please note you must use that incorrect spelling). etc etc. stuff like that.

another example of 'americanisation' was the russell athletic usa hoodies.
i remember when every tom dick and harry had one.

USA hoodies are on a par with white pants

Hahaha hilarious Smile

[quote]
I don't think its americanisation. I was from South Aucks and we always said Southside meaning we rep it from the Southside - no gang related ish there.

But when you walk around town and you hear kids that are 10 years old saying bloods and crips then we have problems...
[quote]
Chief - LMFAO @ USA HOODIES. Its like why rep a country you're not even from?

In Sydney the Southside t-shirts and Otara/Mangere tops from Dawn Raid sell like hotcakes - its like the equivalent to having Carhartt wears. Strange but true - they're proud to rep where they're from Smile
[quote]
I live in South Auckland and yes the slang of naming who you represent West/East... does come from the States.

There goes Popular Culture again. It's in the music.

I'm proud to represent where i am from but sometimes when all you hear is little "moe Pee's" (try hards) saying South Side this or West side that it is very tedious and makes me think "oh fuck get a freakin life".

[quote]
Wikkid acornm, its all about the Aotearoa style

Serendipity have you heard the southside story albums featuring hip hop talent almost exclusively from your area?

It'll make ya proud, promise!

Fuckin choice!!! Did not know that! I am happy to hear that.

I agree saying southside etc etc is not gang related but i'm pretty sure we definitely got it from the states.

But in saying that, i'm really glad that Dawn Raid hard out rep Southside. There's so much musical talent out this way.
[quote]
Yeah we did get it from the states, I think I just contradicted myself Razz

I guess my point was we use the ebonics that americans use to rep where we're from but in saying Westside and Southside we are not referring to gangs as they once used in the states.

I got hoes.. I got hoes... In different area codes.

I notice a lot of kids like to use the phone codes a lot these days - big ups to the 296, 297, 298 and 299 massive inside.
[quote]
Yeah instead of North Side U could say, 410's, 444's, 478's, and 489s! Go the 489's!
[quote]
i think most who still use these gang related terms are young'uns who don't know any better and still have that romantic image of gang life they see in the movies.
what i find even more hilarious is the white kids from the 'burbs (especially remuera and shore kids)
who spout the gangsta talk, play gangsta dress up,and go out tagging, all the while leading lives of privallage and wealth.
as an ex south auckland white kid (big ups mangere east!hahahah) this stuff is a source of great amusement.
[quote]
im central so big ups to the 303's!!!!

hahahhahaha
[quote]
wop wop
[quote]
acornm- yep agreed with gang issue...

[quote]
I believe USA hoods were so popular cos they were always on special @ stirling sports and they were the cheapest label wears peeps could afford...
[quote]
Too true Atomik.

HA! Baretta I think you're onto something heheheh end of range isht. Who the hell would want a BRIGHT ORANGE one? I must admit when they first came out I had a grey one, this was of course before they blew up.

where have all the contributors gone?
[quote]
i reckon the fact that each 'side', here, is so damn close together in regards to distance whats the fuckin point?
[quote]
Wouldn't it be better to say where you come from and use the Maori Name?
eg I COME FROM MANGERE ( note no french pronounciation or "parangi" slang)
I have been working in a call centre and we get calls from all over New Zealand, some of the pronouciation of Maori names/land marks are so shocking.
I think that in itself would carry more meaning because it endorses and acknowledges NZ identity and its something special and individual about where we are, where we live and where we come from and who we represent.
