Heya..

I currently have a 20.5" Samsung LCD. Thinking of getting a second monitor. Would it be weird/inadvisable to get a different size/brand/? Are there compatibility issues at all? Or issues if I have one 20.5" and one, say 24" ?

thanks Smile

I've used a 24" alongside a 19" of different brands and I never had any issues ...other than my desk wasn't wide enough so I ditched the 19".

No issues what so ever.

What are you doing about graphics cards?

If you want I have a dual output Nvidia Quadro FX card that I want to ship.

I don't need another gfx card do I? :o

My current one has DVI and HDMI. My current monitor uses the DVI, so if I get a monitor with HDMI output it'd be okay right?

HDMI *input* I mean..

DVI and HDMI are the (mostly) same thing, you can buy cords that are dvi to hdmi.

youd be better off with a dual dvi card but vga is fine too.

But my gfx card has one DVI and one HDMI on the back (it doesn't have a VGA one). Does this necessarily mean I have dual-monitor capability, if I plug one into each of them?

probably means you can have two at the same time.

I think you can do hdmi - to dvi but theres some hdmi standards that dvi doesnt do.... not sure exactly how that would work.

my card is DVI & HDMI, the TV is connected to the HDMI, it's like a second monitor to the computer & media centre opens on it.

Wouldn't mind getting a second monitor/third display device though - would really help with quite a few different applications - will need a second video card to do it but that's no big deal.

Anyway, point is there shouldn't be any issues.

Nope.. not weird at all

Doesn't the fact that they are all out of calibration with each other bug the shit out of you? Razz
[quote]
Nah not really.. also the the photo makes it look worse. I only use all three for video editing. The other two are a lot closer in real life. They don't have a tolerate viewing angle as the centre one though.

I like mine to be matchy, haaate uneven things.

I find only some controls apps have a horizontal flow and some like letter box and some a better with vertical flow. Most of the time I only need widescreen on the main monitor, the rest of the controls don't suit widescreen.

I would not swap those two for one widescreen even though the screen area would be about the same.

Plus theres the TV off screen which is the 4th Wink

You defiantly can. In graphics card > monitor terms most of the esoteric newer HDMI standards should be a non-issue.

Both of them with dual dvi out. Someone of them was only single dvi out.

How do you find them? Looking at a FX1800 for the next build.

Love them Smile over 200 dev workstations in the last 3 years and not one single problem.

I bought a second monitor identical to my first one last week, picked it up last night. So now I have 2x Samsung 226bw's, awesome Very Happy

But the second is hooked up yet, waiting on a second graphics card to turn up which I also bought on tardme (7100GS 512mb) for $30.

Might even post a pic once I have them both running, not sure why, just wanna show off the latest toy I guess Razz
