drug companies and the government

i reckon that american drug companies have secretly got drugs that can cure things like cancer/aids but the govt keeps them supressed cos they keep world populations in check and keeps nations supressed

Yeah, not entirely rational if you ask me, seeing the US government spends vast amounts of money fighting aids amongst its own population, and similarly to other Western countries. Incidentally, the government doesn't do a lot of the aids and cancer research that goes on, and there's always an incentive for private companies to announce they have a treatment/cure as there is much money to be made in developing such a drug.

But then again... are you just trolling?

Thats pretty cynical sam. Although I don't think its beyond the realms of possibility if it somehow served their greater interests.

But why just American companies? Why not British, French, Russian companies? They've got just as much reason to fuck everyone over.

Not sure if you are just fishing Sam but I have heard lots of rumours etc that governments don't want to find cures for cancer because it will put too many radiotherapists and the likes out of jobs and lessesn hospitals income. it's hard to believe though but there are def lots of conspiracy theories in this area

Just not true! The costs of cancer are enormous in every Western country, governments don't bloody MAKE money off it! People peddling false hopes and cures make money off it. That's the real cancer conspiracy issue if you ask me!

That's what i said when I was told about this theory - surely having sick people out of hospitals and back working in society is better for the government finacially than having a minority of radiotherapists and the like keep their jobs.

The problem with this and most other conspiracy theories is that they are so counter-productive to be completely impractical to everyone.
I understand the mentality of "you just don’t know", but really, most conspiracy theories defy logic. It almost seems (to put it simplistically) that people have been watching too many movies where there is a villain whose only goal in life is to create evil for the shear joy of it... Er...
Governments are always behind some shady deal apparently. Who exactly in government are we talking about? Governments are made of vast numbers of people where information can be put down somewhere, someone may forget about something, no one quite knows whose responsible for ordering that desk in the corner or why its there... lots of random things happen. Just like any business or any organisation.

Screw that - the real story is that AIDS was a manufactured virus created in the US as a biological warefare agent from cows or something, but it was accidentally released, and some crazy cover storey with monkies in the congo and stuff was cooked up. Got the inside scoop from an guy who says he used to work for the FBI - he was a little nuts though now that I think about it.....
