Do you drink and drive ...if so Why???

Have you lost anyone to drinking and driving, or have you been lucky enough not to.

My dad was killed instantly when I was 3, he wass driving home to the farm after being at the pub all day, a road marker got stuck in his suspension so he could only go straight ahead or left...

left was off a steep cliff....

straight ahead was into the back of a parked truck in a truckstop on the side of a cury road.

He suffered horrific injurys to his head and was killed instantly and left my young mother with 3 children under 5.

He was 3 times over the legal limit.

Now tell me why you drink and drive??????
[quote]
by the way he went straight ahead....

sorry if this annoys you but I just don't understand the whole driving drunk thing.

I dont have any memories of my father and am so pissed off at him for making that decision.

Sorry to hear that he died in such a horrific way, Munky - it's a big advertisement not to drink drive. Quite frankly, it's bloody stupid.

However important this issue is (it's very important imho), I think what is more relevant to Biggie is the issue of "drug-driving" or whatever you want to dub it.

Although I accept that the effects of many dance-drugs (E, K, speed, Rush/Amyl/isobutyl nitrate, NOS, acid, etc, G/fantasy/Liquid E - even pot) are much different than alcohol, what's the story with this?

Although drink driving is much frowned upon by most young people I know, the issue of drugged-driving seems to have somewhat less stigma attached, yet I imagine it can be just as dangerous at times.

Any thoughts on this issue as well, anyone?
[quote]
Yes, although neither i or my friends would dream of getting behind the wheel drunk, when coming home from a big night, its only a question of whos the least wasted not who is straight to drive. when you think this over it does seem careless and stupid, maybe because its not hammered into us like drunk driving we just dont even think of this issue when getting in a car.
[quote]
Just what I was thinking voice.
Drugs alter your judgement as well. Although some drugs impair worse than others.

Fark Munky sorry to hear....

My 19yr sis and her hubby to be, were killed instantly in a car accident, not alcohol related but speed. DRIVING SUCKS IN MY MIND, SPEED, DRUGS AND DRUNKS DRIVING!!!!! Sad

Both drink/drug driving is bloody stupid...

I don't drink so never have driven drunk. Nether has any of my family members or hubby or inlaws.

Just reading the paper this morning, a mother was found 3 times over the legal limit on her way home at only 5.50pm with her 11 month baby in the car, crossed the centre line three times, well other cars had to avoid her...she was so over that they couldn't do all the tests on her, she then decided to punch the officer in the chest and tried to run down the street with baby in arms, the police shackled her and took away her baby.

ALL I CAN SAY IS WHAT A FARKIN DUMB BITCH

mmm yip I agree voice..but this topic is one that Im extremely passionite about and I thought that current affairs was about any topic.
[quote]
Sorry munky, I wasn't trying to take away from what you were writing - just tacking on the end another issue.

Sorry to hijack things!
[quote]
I can see that certain segments of our older population are harder to convice about the perils of drunk driving, what I dont understand is when younger people have a blase attitude. After all thats been said and done.
(just trying to get back to your topic munky : ) )
[quote]
sweet as Voice dont mind me Im a grumpy munky today Sad

[quote]
Yes I agree with you there Smiley.
[quote]
Drunk driving? Hell no.
[quote]
Think Munky has gone to work now Sad Catch you later babe Smile
[quote]
I have never driven while drunk and I don't think I ever will. I have driven while under the influence of another substance. I had waited for the main effects to subside quite a bit, but in retrospect it was still a stupid thing to do.
[quote]
When I grew up you were labeled a "poof" if you didn't drink and drive (I am 35). Hence I am sad to say my early drinking years had moments when I drunk and drove - too many.

Added to this was a very sad attitude from my and previous generations to drink.

I'm lucky some of my friends weren't and as such aren't here to enjoy today.

I'm bloody pleased to see this being turned around, my attitudes have, thankfully.

Now I get pissed and catch a cab Smile Perhaps I still have some growing to do....

Drunk driving.. is for stupid people with not much brain..
I always think that only the stupid drink and drive.. for me are all those people where they think smoking is cool driving fast and dangerously is cool and drinkin exceedly every night is cool.
So when I hear in the news somebody was put in jail after drink and driving.. I don't really care about them.. I actually think that people like that they should not get their licence back.. that's what i think anyway..
[quote]
I think the advertising of late has been good, I just hope it gets in the heads of the wrong doing people Smile
[quote]
more than two glasses of wine = no way I'll drive.
[quote]
munkyindenial sorry to hear your story, i totally support your view about drunk driving.

i also feel that it is much harder to persuade the older generation not to drink and drive, and that i feel not as many young ppl drink and drive anymore, but i know that some ppl i know are still dumb enough to drink and drive.

Although their friends all frown about it and b*tch and moan behind their backs, nobody eva stops them, or confronts them and tells them it is a stoopid thing to be doing.

but i suppose to contradict myself, i had better admit that i have many times driven home from events under the influence of drugs. it has always been about 6 hours after taking the substance, and to tell you the truth i feel far more aware, knowing that i have to be so much more careful, plus, under the influence of drugs i have actually driven at the speed limit(which doesn't happen often).

So i guess im just as bad as a drunk driver, i dunno.
[quote]
If you do drive drunk please come and see me so i can knock some sense into the lot of you !
[quote]
Drinking and driving is stupid fact.
But......i have been knocked of my motorbike more times than i can count and had my car smashed into a few times, once whilst sitting in it parked. none of these idiot drivers were drunk.
So here is a thought if a person drives drunk he has an excuse for crashing, not a good one, but the driver was drunk. its the people that crash when sober they are a farkin worry too what was there excuse for crashing when straight?
[quote]
agreed dancinpomme!

the nite of Slinky in September, i took a substance at about 2am, at 3.30am i went back to my car to find it had been broken into, i couldn't just leave it there so i had to drive it from Alexandra Park back to the shore.

Anyway on the way back to slinky (yes i went back, but i didn't drive) i turned off the motorway at gillies ave behind a crazy driver, who slammed her car into a massive bridge support under the gilles ave bridge.

This girl would have died if she wasn't driving a volvo, she was sober!

I had to call the police and confront them, under the influence of an illegal substance, and tell them what this sober driver had nearly done to herself.

im not saying im right and she was wrong by a long shot, but accidents happen to everyone!
[quote]
And for some strange reason I didn't even notice you had disappeared at Slinky Wink
[quote]
hehe im not saying i sped home, jsut wanted to get back for more action thats all!
[quote]
Yes accidents do happen!! but being under the influence of something or speeding can not only make the accidents worse but increase the % of accidents to happen!
[quote]
so can being a slack sober driver!
[quote]
So can just being a driver and some other farkhead crashing into ya...
[quote]
.....that is sober.
[quote]
Your kidding.

No one needs to tell me about the dangers of driving, sober or otherwise.

If you have read my earlier thread you would see that I've lost my sister and her hubby to be in a car accident.

[quote]
i have read that, and i agree in fact i feel a very lethal driver is one that thinks they are sweet cause they are sober and that nothing can happen to them.

i know what i do is wrong, just being brave enough to say it!
[quote]
i took out a lamp post and didnt even realise until my car died about 100 metres down the road!! Its only with age (no, im not that old!) that i realise what an idiot i was.

Its a pity that you generally learn from your (or other peoples) mistakes.
[quote]
i might add that i now try not to drive at all, drunk or sober!

Long live the public transport system!!
[quote]
Meh, people make mistakes.... No need to increase your chances by drinking.
[quote]
cool guys , nice to hear your thoughts on this one...
[quote]
driving drunk = NOT ON!
[quote]
Generally positive thoughts eh Munky Smile

Good luck for tonight Smile
[quote]
