R.I.A. aka Rire In Action has been spinning the one’s and two’s for nearly 7 years and is no stranger to the music industry. She started to learn about basic sound engineering while working at Sydney based Dj/PA hire shop. She immersed herself in learning the ways of multi-brand Dj equipment and speakers and it wasn’t long before she was setting up large scale sound systems and spinning up a storm with ease at events, clubs and parties. It was here where she started to flex her skills as one of the most versatile and talented female Djs on the circuit. R.I.A has always leant towards underground music and has probably moved in between every genre possible! When in her element, she rocks mid-tempo breaks and electro funk, but will always adapt her set to suit the vibe and atmosphere of any venue dropping anything from down-beat through to DnB and loving every minute.
Rire moved back to NZ in June 2006, and after a short stint in Christchurch chasing the snow she moved to Auckland to take on the roll as events and promotions manager at Auckland’s infamous George FM. It was here where she started her own radio show and started to establish herself as a Dj in Auckland city. She’s now working for independent label and boutique agency LOOP MEDIA and continues to impress bars, clubs and parties with her unique track selection and technical skills in the mix.
She promotes her own bar night ‘LOCAL†based out of Malt bar in Grey Lynn. The Local has become some what of a Thursday night institution for peeps who want to chill, catch up and get warmed up for any weekend madness. She also can be heard at regular night spots Rakinos, Khuja, Neighbourhood, Northern Steamship and numerous special events. She produces and presents a weekly on Base Fm for Mixed Biziness 12 – 2pm Wednesdays with co host Sammy G and does regular guest appearances on George FM.
