recently i purchased myself a Canon G5, mostly for taking pictures at gigs but also playing around with as it has some great features and a great qaulity for the price.

Just wanted to know for those who take pics in the club wot sort of settings do you guys use as far as aperture, iso and flash and shutter speeds you are using to get desired results.

Be great to get some tips and tricks from some of you pros there Smile

Nikon 4300
Nikon D100

I only use the 4300 in a club enviroment... fuck screwing my precious D100 with sweat, laser pitting etc.

Im running a 4300 as well. Jeff what settings do you use for club pictures. Most of my nice pictures have been of clouds Smile

heh.... I'm lazy most of the time and use the Scene modes... Night Landscape and Night Portrait...

On most other cameras I would suggest using a fill flash.

canon s30

am looking at buying another camera as the s30/45/50's are a little too big to be easily carried and a little too small to be steady. HAving said that theyre great for all the manual adjustments and wide av and tv settings.

i wish i had a small quicksnap type thing and a nicer larger camera, i had a look at the G5 and the eos canon but as ive got something that will do the job already im finding it hard to justify spending money...

Olympus 3020. Does the job but like any toy, I want a better one but can't really justify the cost.

I usually use it on manual mode with slow flash, usually ISO400. Tend to leave it on for between 1/5 and 1 second depending on general lighting levels and whether a strobe is going. Do the odd photo with no flash when its smoky but not many of those come out very well.

Canon A70 - nice camera.

using my g5 in the club with 400 iso, 1 sec exposure and a flash im gettin fair bit of overexposure. How can i lessen the chance of that happening?

is it better to lower the iso and keep the shutter speed up around 1.5 secs? that should keep the grainyness of the picture down also yeah?

Yep... also maybe lower the resolution .... usually you get more noise on the image when the ISO and resolution are both high.

I use 1/10 - 1sec but ussually 1/5-.3 with the flash on lowest setting - sometimes i even stick my finger over half the flash - especially when one person is pale or wearing white.

i use iso 100 pretty much all the time too. The shots dont turn out great but they are well balanced for when i go to photoshop and auto colour or auto level them depending on the light conditions.

if the forground is really dark you can get away with much longer shutter speeds but if theres lights on the people you have to accept half thier face might be blurred - sometimes for the better but mostly not.
