DIablo 3

I've never been much of a gamer so maybe don't have the best frame of reference, but this seems ridiculously awesome to me :o

Used to love Diablo 1 as a kid so thought I'd give this a try, my god.. Interface/UI is sick, so smooth. Story is really quite engaging

Yeah I got on last night and had a play. Seems pretty cool so far. Only played til the end of the Skeleton King and it was pretty easy. I imagine it gets a lot harder though.

Im still waiting for the Star Wars ps3 move lightsabre game thats been promised for over a year now.

They need to have a "move glove" so you can use the force. Push, pull, lightning etc.

Yep, thats a good idea - but could be easy to overcome by using an alternative "fire" button on the move controller.

Other than that - still caining Battlefield 3. Love it!

Yeah BF3 is still my favourite. It's one of the first FPS I've played, other than TF2, so I've spent a lot of time getting owned.

Contemplated getting Diablo 3, but one player games don't really interest me usually.

I wasn't allowed to play games when I was a kid. The old man took us out once every month or two to play some spacies or something, but that was about it. There's no way I'd get away with doing anything for that long. I had too many chores, or I got told to go outside and play. Something like that. Even TV wasn't on for very long each day. Mum and Dad would just keep us busy with other things.

Now I'm older, if I want to play games for 8 hours on a Sunday, I will. But I'll make sure the housework is done, I've been for a run (or something), I've spent time with the girlfriend, I've eaten properly and there's nothing else better I could be spending my time on.

Can we send him to hang out with your dad for a bit? ;-p

Seriously, it's probably what he needs and I'm just not that sure about how to handle it as I haven't really dealt with any teenage kids in this context before. It's all about consistenecy I'm sure, but the gf is a little bit soft on him and I'm not really wanting to be the new boyfriend who's demanding too much.

Not an easy conversation, but I'd ask your girlfriend what kind of man she wants her son to turn into. It's up to her to decide, not her son, or you. Then she needs to have a think about whether the path he's on will turn him into that man.

If she wants him to be a man who can cook for himself, clean himself, care for himself, have manly skills like fixing things and working hard and knowing the difference between the right way to do something and the easy way, then she needs to make him that person, not sit back and cross her fingers that he'll just turn into that person.

Yep. You have to be connected to their servers to play. Can't play offline. Anti-piracy etc etc.

As for the work thing - I think it all depends on the kid. Mine is 16 and Im lucky he's a super active dude, he's loves programming and writing software - but every hour or so he just gets up and gaps it - he will go fishing or for a skate. He's not long ago started working (holy fuck!).

I was raised on a farm - so milking cows at retard-o-clock, chipping thistles, fencing, bailing in summertime yadda yadda. All that sort of shit.
Unfortunately by the time I was a teen I had developed a severe allergy to work. Which plagues me to this day.

Just released at work a TVC for the Game of Thrones PC/PS3/Xbox Game. Looks average.

It will be shit. Most tv/movie game adaptions are. Other than Batman. That game just keeps winning awards everywhere.

have you played Batman? i'm not really into many single player games, and don't have the patience for long role playing games. The only one i've played and liked is assassins creed, flatmate has AC 2 on xbox so playing that now. That's awesome.

Im the same with single player games (other than God Of War....which I just fucking love)
I had to try it (batman) after all the gaming mags kept giving it 10/10.
AC is great visually, when Im too cained to play anthing - I just watch my mates play it. But playing it myself just frustrates the fuck outta me.

I've played both. I liked Assassin's Creed, but had some anger at how you just stick to everything. You'd try run and jump off something, but grab onto something else. Or you'd be climbing, then leap backwards into mid air and have to redo it all.

Batman Arkham Asylum was cool on PS3. I played Arkham City on PC and it took me ages to get used to the controls, but very pretty and Batman-esk. Some...uh...sext characters as well. Not sure if that's weird or not.

I just got to L26 (Wizard) last night.. I'd highly recommend not using the Auction House if you haven't already though, it's kinda ruined the game a bit for me heh. The in-game merchants will sell me like 35 armour magic pants for around 2,000 - but I can get wayyyy better ones (like 70 armour with sockets) for around 1,000 quite often in Auction House, so now my hero is just ridiculously powerful and even the boss enemies take only a few seconds to kill :/

Good for gaining experience/gold but combat is boring now.. They really should lock the AH until you get past Normal difficulty imo Now I have to go and get rid of all my awesome stuff just to make the game fun again..

I played a little bit of Skryim on the weekend, anyone here played that? it's quite good, but so time consuming.

Yeah, I thrashed co-op on Saturday. Level 41 atm. I've noticed with one other person, there's not too much difference, but with two or three, everything is a lot harder to kill.

Been playing through nightmare and there is a huge step up, but once you level up some more, it's ok. Between normal and nightmare, I had to really start watching what weapons etc I was using.

Haven't had a look at the auction house, for the same reasons. Just seems a bit like cheating really. There's a few things I wish I've never done. I like I trained up the blacksmith, which has been completely pointless. Did the jeweller as well. Used him a bit, but apparently it's just easier to buy in Auction House.

Skyrim seems to be responsible for the disappearance of many many people. They have just vanished.

I managed to avoid Skyrim. Have some friends that disappeared for a while...though I did the same with BF3.

I just can't get into Skyrim (or most one player games) enough to spend that much time on it.

Things that annoy me about online only play:

High pings. Probably not going to matter too much until PvP, but still annoying. Occasional rubber banding though.
SERVER MAINTENANCE AT 6PM-2PM. Seriously awesome timing.

Cranking through single player on normal at the moment. Level 27 and my gear is getting ok. Haven't done the auction house yet... keen as to do some multiplayer tho : )

The new BF3 patch has made ping probs a thing of the past now. Using the server browser filter I just search for Aus servers only. Can almost guarantee a high ping every time. Plus with the whole rent a server deal, you can jump in to games with 300 respawn tickets - and rush only - sometimes with the same level repeating! Operation Metro all night long!! Plus I discovered you can see the map rotation also, so you can see if its going to go to a stupid Conquest level.

Yeah I liked that last BF3 patch. About the only thing I didn't like was that the tanks are made out of paper now against jets. But meh.

And there's a few conquest maps I can't stand.

Skyrim is pretty good! I love the environment but its bloody too much of an investment. I guess part of the attraction for some people is you can keep on playing forever.. I think 50 hours is not even 10% of the way through. I think if I was a teenage boy again it may appeal but..

Meh I much prefer something like Need for Speed where you can pick up and play a few rounds or whatever. The Run (Latest NFS) is pretty good.

Truth is I'd probably like BF3 but find controllers all wrong for FPS, compared to a mouse and KB.

Yeah, most pc gamers I know cant stand playing FPS with a controller.

Skyrim was cool and did eat 120 hrs over a four month period but I still prefer Fallout 3 so am gonna go buy a copy this week ^_^

I've never seen your attraction to Fallout game as it always looks like a poor man's Borderlands, worse graphics, average animations, and difficult aiming that seems to rely on that auto targetting crap.

Also didn't really like fallout 3, Flatmate also had that so tried it, didn't like it. Skyrim is ok but also agree its too much commitment. I don't think I teally like RPGs much. Too slow and boring.

Actually, because you went there and I'm having a fucking enraging day, on no level is Borderlands better. The game is grindy and boring, you go over the same area time and time again (BUT THIS TIME THERE'S FOUR RATS INSTEAD OF THREE), the missions are all but identical, the characters are caricatures, the skill/growth trees are cruddy, and the story line is weak cheese: it's just a fucking shitty game :/

Fallout 3 is the devil because it has ridiculous replay value, it is REAL open world instead of the fake linear open Borderlands is, your character develops in a shitload of game-changing different ways (rather than grinding three hours to get +1 swoopy bird attack or whatevertf), your interactions cause NPC reactions to change, the story line is engaging, and the add-ons are immense. Your comparison of the two is just lose.

I hate that black border they put around the borderland characters too, makes it look stupid.

Yeah so does my son, I admit you can get xp heaps quicker playing Conquest. I just don't like constant running back and forth. Because very rarely does any squad defend each base (that would get quite boring), unless your down to just owning one. So everyone just keeps running about trying to recapture bases. This is esp annoying when playing Wake Is! The map is fucking huuuuuge.
That's why I like Rush, take a base, move forward...repeat till you've smashed everyone. Also, now with customized servers/levels you can find games with a kazillion respawn tickets so you can get mega xp from that.

To be fair Tony, both of those games graphics look pretty shit.

Agree with the Wake Is, conquest. It's ok if you're on a 64 player map, but it's hard doing anything.

Also with conquest, esp with large maps, when you have 1000+ tickets and one team is owning the other it can get boring pretty quickly. Just sits there camping until the tickets run out, Jav-ing the vehicles, spreading mines around and keeping everyone in the base. Especially if that happens in the first 100-200 tickets. Metro and Seine are like that a lot.

I like just fucking around in bf3, especially after I've had a smoke! I usually get into a tank and push other players in my team who are in vehicles into the water. Or pilot a helicopter with 3 other players in it and crash it before any of them can get out or fly it into a deadzone

Meh, the Borderlands graphics are meant to be cartoony rather than realistic, and the animations are awesome, Fallout might have the better story but I found the controls to be shit and action to be average whereas Broderlands had seat of pants action that delivered eguine sense of excitement and relief. Also the weapons system in Borderlands is the best ever created.

Played on some AU servers that have a message on everyone screens "username was just knife shanked by otheruser"... something like that. Makes it just that little bit more satisfying.

You should be able to add other user tags to your own tag list imo. Knifing is just as good as earning them I reckon.

The funniest is getting people in corners in Modern warfare and trapping them for the entire game.

heh dunno, tbh just grabbed screenshots at random which showed characters so have grabbed more even comparison but as for animations I have nfi why you're comparing them; comparing cartoony animation to realistic movements is apples and oranges, and apart from rare random terrain glitches I truly don't know what you mean.





The weapons upgrades argument I can agree with, but as that is the only point I can agree with, and is ultimately so inconsequential, it does almost nothing to sway my opinion.

By animations I meant the way things moved was very smooth, there are some truly fantastic death and damage animations. Also the game was full of humour that enduced some ladder goat moments - except they were actually intended.

heh tbh I think we're comparing games that are sufficiently different that they shouldn't be compared anyway. One is a shooter with player growth while the other is an RPG with guns, which will explain conflicting opinions. RPG4LYF *rolls D20 for THAC0 calculation*

I thought Borderlands was brilliant. And I have no issue with how awesome the intentionally cartoony graphics and animations looked on my PC. Very much looking forward to Borderlands 2 later this year.
