well, they r one week away, which ones more funkstatic?
[quote]
You cant go wrong with deep hard , bring on Greg and Paul Dean!!!! Fuck our locals are wicked!!!!
[quote]
DHF will be all good, but for pure funk you can't go past the live acts on @ velvet.
[quote]
DH&F was good but for a few things last time, full of kids, very very average lites and sound, was much better when it was small, but has always been full of 18's & younger. Velvet jus keeps getting more n more pumped but the vibe is always the same
its simple realy, if you are 22 or under dh&F if over 22 velvet. the line ups & venues speak for themselves, no comparison.
[quote]
2 main differences ...

Havoc plays at one of them ...

the other pretends to be R22 ...

[quote]
there are a few more than that armanidude, say 18djs vs 41djs & heaps of live stuff, st james vs civic, 4 rooms vs 6, heres the biggie, AVERAGE AGE 18 vs AVERAGE age 25+. I agree i saw SOME youngies at the last velvet which did piss me and my mates off a bit, but not 2000 of them? I,m 30 and by no means were there many MUCH younger than me thats for sure.
Oh, b4 someone mentions the obvious, velvet is $50 (unless you are a member like me $35) vs DH&F @ $35, lets see: thrice the acts, venue & production. $15 well spent as far as I'm concerned.
I will say though after that, I have enjoyed quite a few of the DH&F gigs, but ALL of the velvets.
[quote]
I have to agree with Zippy there. I have enjoyed quite a few of the DH&F gigs, but the last one was a totally different vibe and Im not sure if I like the 'SUPERCLUB' version of DH&F. I have never experienced velvet or the winter garden so this is where I am headed towards.
[quote]
Velvet IS Auklands night of sumptuous decadence -
the classiest night you could possibly find!!
Go Nowhere else ever but dont miss this
[quote]
Zippy- whats with the downer on younger punters?

I know a few of the people involved with the performance side of the last velvet, none of whom were 22, including the digeridoo playa and a percussionist. Shit, the girl on the posters/flyers is also a mate and wasn't even legal drinking age when the publicity shots were taken! I'm guessin that the R22 is a maturity thing, and if they act in that way, whats to be pissed off about? The peeps i'm refering to definately arent dumbass white pants kru. The same performers i mentioned earlier will be at the next one entertaining you, so maybe you should give the younger punters a wee bit more credit, i mean, we aint ALL bad ( are we?)
[quote]
Love deep hard but yup the last one did have a diff vibe, lotsa punters and people who looked more at home in a trance gig. We should start a petition to take deep hard back to Cirque even thought i did manage to have a great time at the last one , mightly impressed with good ol pual dean!
[quote]
Cracks me up with the Velvet crew's obsession with keeping the young out. Judging from the last Velvet I went to, maybe it would be an idea to keep some of the oldies out. It was like a friggin geriatric home.
[quote]
I already got me DHF ticket. Ahhhhhoooooo
[quote]
thanx all for ur postings. i'd been to last dhf and velvet. ditto that dhf was more relax - no prob with that since it didnt stress any extra condition as velvet did, which tried lil' hard to be exclusive with its dress policy/r22 etc, i saw one (obviously more than above 22) person in usual white polo nike ts+jeans+wasted sport sneakers - looks which may bar from k'rds strip, so much so for the conditions @velvet, or was that his out of towner look... but hey, its the music that bring us together - if the vibe is not right, leave, which i opted for good ol' calibre instead, where most of the dhf/velvet djs do every weekends. had nuff st james, will go for velvet @ civic consider its more value for money - from a budget queen prospective Smile
[quote]
Oooooo ouch - the knives are out again!

I went to the last DH&Funky & had a great time, I did feel alittle old, but hey, I'm 32! I feel a little old & almost every big gig!
Velvet & Deep hard & funky are different events, they may share one genere and a few of the DJs, but thats about where it stops. They are both renowned as top notch events in their own right, bitching about one & uping the other won't actually make any difference to the turn out at each, both have a habbit of selling out anyway. Both have a strong following.
So heres the thing - if you fit the criteria, and you can afford it & love House, go to both - I'm sure as hell not going to stop you comming to velvet because you love DH&F also - if not - up to you really. Like I said, both gigs are likely to sell out regardless.

PS. re dress code at velvet - THIS TIME - we have reserved the right of entry, and will use it, its our birthday this time, we have pulled out all the stops act, venue & production wise - anybody comming should too - it makes it more fun! - I might add though, that we had a very large amount of roadies at the last gig due to the huge live & production elements, roadies are not known for there er... dress code - this time they get Funk Factory T's!

Ghetto pimp - thanks, at least I don't have to back up the age bit.
[quote]
Can you please explain what would be considered an unacceptable dress standard. My wardrobe mainly consists of (tidy)jeans, T's & trainers. I wouldnt consider myself to be scruffy by any means, I just wear whats comfortable to dance in & Id hate to pay the $50 only to be turned away cause of what Im wearing.

If this is unacceptable please let me know so that I have time to shop!
[quote]
Perhaps we should post what we intend wearing on the night and the Velvet organisers can screen us all on-line.

??
[quote]
yes well if my lace up white pants and glowsticks and my cool new fluro bra arent good enough then too bad for them im going to Havana.(hehehe)
[quote]
Dunno about getting into Velvet but with that get-up you're welcome to come to my private par-tay.
[quote]
oh Scandal you little devil!! Now at velvet will you be wearing no shirt and the silver vinyl pants showing off your hot bod. Because if you are you better put my "name on the door" at your private par-tay baby and we'll see if you really can wear underwear under whitepants!
[quote]
Ferksta, didnt mean to start tis whole discussion to split dhf & velvet.

re dress-code, it all make sense ie. roadies. please advise wats appropriate, diesel/royal or patrick cox? smart casual stylie or dj station get-up?? like others, i dont want to b turn away nor overdress, the knives r safely tucked away Smile
[quote]
OK peeps - Smart, sharp, clean, funky, club wear is fine - just dont turn up looking like you just stepped out of the local public bar! - but c'mon people - try to make an effort here, we gave away over $2k of bubbles, loads od cds & other stuff last time to the best dressed - will be more this time as its our birthday - get down to a costume hire place, hey!, it might even improve YOUR night out if you make an effort!!!

like I said people, c'mon - think outside of your square - it might just be worth it for a change!
its our birthday, please treat it as such.

whos going to both?
[quote]
Well at the tender age of 19 looks like I'm left in the lurch for 3 years. Went to N n' U and had the time of my life, the venue was so clean and tidy and the atmosphere was great. Went to DHF and just didn't have fun, tried my best, but just didn't sit right. Didn't have the same funky feel.

Oh well hope you all have fun at velvet and I'll catch you all at the 5th birthday Smile

ps. for those who attended DHF, do you think it would have been too much trouble for them to hire some people to pick up the bottles and glasses? or at least had bins to put them in....
[quote]
because their is no law relating to having to be older than 22 would that not make it age dicrimination and therefore illegal ?
[quote]
VELVET - AWESOME!!! WOO HOO THANX THANX THANX
