Recently, we @ Dead Famous HQ had the thought to get some of today's best up and coming producers to take a stab at remixing some of our favorite releases from over the years. Having enlisted producers from multiple coasts, we think we've presented some great updates on past Dead Famous releases for this, the first of multiple Dead Famous Remix EP's. First up is the winner of our remix contest for DHD's ode to the internet forum, "Scene" -
Dekoy. He's taken the dirty techfunk original and crafted a THICK breaky house monster complete with an angry dubstep interlude and driving techy rhythms. His entry was so good that there was no doubt that he really captured the idea of the original song and ran with it.
Next up is
Attack Release, who has taken Break the Box's awesome "Test the Bass", and flipped the script so to speak from driving techy breaks number to nasty techno. The bassline on this tune is the equivalent of floating on an evil black cloud across the red hot skies of hell. This remix is exactly what we envisioned when commisioning this remix, and he did not dissapoint in the slightest. Moving in a different direction, rising star
LuQas, fresh off recent releases on the wicked Yellow Finger takes on label honchos the Robosapiens punk vocal infused release, "Infected". Keeping true to the original, but amping up the vibe + 10, LuQas has delivered a big room, easily accessible techy-but-funky breaks update that is sure to find a home in many a dj's cd wallet.
We're big fans of the work that
Farace is doing, and considered it a no-brainer to have him do Bitrok's classic, "The Real". Completely dropping the chunky-meets-Underworld vibe of the original in favor of peak time rock inspired techy madness, Farace shows here why he has quite a bright future in the breakbeat community. Lastly (but far from leastly), one of our all time favorite producers,
Kickflip, has taken the classic rock sampling, big rock breaks monster that is Break the Box & Badboe's "Walk Out Laughing", and run it through the sleaze-a-tron 5000 to craft a remix that stays true to the original, but adds his own filthy touch. It's dirty, and we love it.
Here's what others had to say about the Remix EP:
Dj Icey "My favorite tune out of the lot was the Attack Release Remix of Break the Box's TEST THE BASS, will spin it on the radio show next week"
Kouncilhouse "The Farace mix of the Real is nice. I'll play that tonight"
Marty B "Quite possibly the best of the best in this package.! A massively diverse range or tunes and none of them holding back, from the squelchy bass driven madness of Dekoys epic remix monster to the thrashy guitaresque business that is the man like Farace rerub of Bitrok's The Real this EP has it all! My fave for this release though is from up and coming talented producer LuQas who is without a doubt on fucking fire with his reworking of Robosapiens tune, Infected! Proper proper BOH!"
Lee Martin (Dusted Breaks) "Kickflips remix is my fave. Deep and funky shizzle!! DHD - Scene (original) was actually one of my fave tunes from last year and only my 2nd ever mp3 buy when i moved over to cdj's (memories!!!) This Dekoy remix is great! Will play both as early as tomorrow night!!"
Hexadecimal "Fucking great package, cant decide which one to play"
Tony Tay "Like the LuQas Remix of "Infected". Great job."
Karl Sav "Kickflip remix - Love it.. nice filthy bassline. Can see this rocking.. Definitely support this."

Quextal "Been caning the Attack Release and the LuQas on the radio, both absolute monsters! "
Steve Maccabe "The Luqas remix of Infected is top! lots of energy and a big drop after the breakdown, great stuff. Love the percussion Dekoy has used in Scene remix, a great take on the original. But my favorite is the Farace remix of Bitrok, the original mix was always good and this matches it. Another great package."
Vital Substance "The Kickflip remix is the pick of the bunch for me. It growls like a grizzly bear with piles."
Stay tuned for the 2nd half of July's release - Youthful Implants vs. Tigerfunk's "Heatseeker", with a host of remixes that are sure to wet your acid, emotive, psy, funky, tripped out music loving tongues quite well.
