DNA001 - DJ KAPS
A.NOW&THEN AA.SUNREAL

RELEASE DATE: 11th March

Mike Petrie aka. DJ KAPS has stormed onto the Nz D&B circuit with his rigid attention to detail and sharp engineering skills, mixing for fABEL's first release 'DEEPNEEDS D&B' and SHAPESHIFTER'S ALBUM 'REALTIME'. (includes 'Atmospheres' and 'Creation' - two No1 tracks on BFM for consecutive weeks running.)

Now he has turned his attention to his own work, turning out two tech-Jungle tracks that will tear out any Drum&Bass mix.

NOW&THEN is a sci-fi driven synth anthem with a epic intro, dub vocals, and metal-driven percussion - culminating in a murderous bass stab that drives through the drop, ultimately defining the progressive groove that follows.

SUNREAL is the deceptive B-side that begins with a framented old skool break that rises and solidifies with a tall bass progression, sliced steps, and smooth icy pads in the surrounds.
Check the acid riff on the drop - defining this as a tearout track - rolling out with monumental bass drops and sampled reinforcements of 'Gimme' and 'Huh'.

NZ has such a strong D&B scene but it seems sad that alot of that support is all for international artist instead of our own, surely if we want our scene to reach that standard of UK then we should support our artists in such a way that they will be exorted overseas?
BIG UPZ Fabel, Bulletproof, Concord Dawn and Shapeshifter!!

You ever listened to any of NZ student radio stations?

Read the amount of press NZ DnB artists get compared to internationals in our local magazines?

I think the support is there in droves, especially from punters, and thankfully, the music is starting to deserve all the attention it gets.........

Its finally out!

Pluggin yourself again SadAt!! Razz

Vector, I hear what you're saying bro, but money talks and bullshit walks. Basically, I've only got so much $$$ to spend on tunes a week, so irrespective of its country of origin, if it's good I'll buy it, and if it's crap I wont.

Simple philisophy to live by really. NZ DnB is competing in a global marketplace, and I don't have the cash nor the intentions to play favourites. If it's my $ they're after, they're going to have to earn it by producing good music.

Having said that, I will always give any Aotearoa made beatz the proper respect they deserve, and have picked up some releases on both vinyl & CD.

"surely if we want our scene to reach that standard of UK then we should support our artists in such a way that they will be exported overseas?"

bulletproof aimed to reach a high standard internationally and ignored NZ music apologists + even avoided local support by not even sending demo cds to bfm/radioactive/rdu etc - now look at them - deadman/surge + nephilim/neph rmx were 2 of my favourites of any of the hundreds of records i bought in 2001.. and now theyve got an EP coming on bad company's new label - no local airplay or cd releases required. shapeshifter well on the way too with internationals starting to cut dubs of their tunes
[quote]
as long as Shapeshifter distribute them out my way i'm happy.. they have to be my fav dnb act back in NZ.. top blokes!
[quote]
Yeah acornm I don't mind hooking it up for ya...keep in touch

shapeshifter better do a "bon voyage" tout or somethin ... they are the bees knees, i always have a fucking wickid time when i see them ... often it rather see them than an international
