Decks, how much?

I'm interested into getting into spinning a few records, for personal fun only.

I don't want a crappy set of decks, but there is no point in going out and getting the best set I can find. What would you suggest and how much should I expect to pay?

Also what sort of price do you pay for vinyl?

i paid $4300 for 2 1210s and a Vestax PMC 270A mixer... but apparently you can get it for less than that...

Vinyl is generally $21.95-$22.95 for a 12" @ Criminal. Albums etc are considerably more.
Needle on the Record have a loyalty card where you get one free after you've purchased 10.

I paid $2900 for 2 1210's and Numark DM3002x mixer.

I got quoted today $2550 for 2xTechnics 1210 mk3's. Thats in ch-ch though :p

It sure ain't cheap to get a good set of decks these days.....

The mixer was brand new but the decks weren't so probably not that cheap.

In that case, why spend $$$ for Technics. They are "the best you can find", but very pricey. You should be able to get Gemini or Numark turntables for $500 each, and they will be fine for a beginner who just wants to play for their own enjoyment. Go for a cheap-ish mixer in the $300-$600 ranger. Only the pros need all those extra knobs and switches.

My dream mixer is a Vestax PCV-275 - played on it a few times at Studio 9 and it's niiiice. 'Bout $2500 new tho

$1600 from the Rock Shop for a 2 cheap Stanton belt drive turntables ... with an Omnitronic Mixer. $2200 for the next kit up which includes 2 direct drive Stanton decks.

I am sure there are deals to be had from other retailers such as DMC, NeedleOTR, etc too.

Send this guy an e-mail and see if he can give you what you're after: 'brad@inthemix.co.nz'. He basically reconditions turntables to brand new condition (or bloody close) and if you want he can customise the colour etc for you. He's also an agent for all the major brands and can sell you brand new or reconditioned turntables, whichever you want at a good price. I bought a brand new mixer off him for $100 cheaper than the cheapest retailer I could find - in Auckland

trust me if you look around enough youll find the good geals
if you just go to the rock shop and dmc your bieng lazy
