Actually deaf people want deaf babies because surprisingly their is a whole culture that comes with being deaf. Studied in psych, an non-deaf baby would not become a part of this culture as much as a deaf baby would.

I want a GE baby with flippers and a 'blow hole', is that ok? he could be the worlds best swimmer.

It would be cool if we could get him with blue stripes too, and mabee if he had a funny third arm, he could use it to hold beer cans when hes a bit older.

Really what has the world come to. Designer babies. People should just be happy with the bundle of joy that graces their life regardless of what features it has or hasn't.

Why would anyone want to deliberately impose a disability on a child?
Deafness is a disability, even if it is considered a 'culture' these days.

OK UPDATE...... I just actually read the post and agree wiht you purplelollie. I just thought they were wanting to adopt a deaf child which I thought was quite nice. But to engineer a deaf child? I dont think thats nice.

While I agree with that to some extent, I think we have come to see anything less than perfect as unaccpetable in some ways now. The thread on abortion is basically about that. I can see that from their viewpoint being deaf is not a disability to them, and they are happy with their lives, so why not have a deaf baby. I think genetically engineering children is wrong for whatever reason you are doing it, and that to me is a bigger issue.
