I guess since this site is mainly based on NZ's dance seen, i guess most of you are into it:

Are you more of a Hip Hop person? or are you infact only interested in the hip hop part of this place?

[quote]
Definitely a dance music genre whore, myself, and although I know sweet fuck-all about hip hop in specifics, I do actually like it a lot. Sometimes the vibe at gigs can be a bit wack though, so I don't go to that money. Too much time and money spent following DnB and breaks! However, when I start working, I'm gonna start stocking up on hiphop CDs and shit. Smile
[quote]
Don't give a flying fuck about trance and all that
Simpleton's music.
[quote]
trance, prog & hard house are the only ones that dont really do it for me but I generally like most types of music.

I tend to sway here and there alot. If I get sick of one genre I usually re-discover what I liked about another genre.

I guess I am more of a Hip Hop person though. This is usually the first forum I check when I log on.
[quote]
I mostly listen to dnb. But also a lot of hip hop, house, dub and reggae
[quote]
of all genres, hip hop would be my fav, exploring new genres now though, dnb, dub and house. all good. but more into the hip hop culture no doubt. urban all the way.
[quote]
blink: You should love nu skool breaks then. Very Happy A cool blend between DnB and house in many ways, also encompassing some of the scratching and turntablist elements of hip hop...

It's my new love!
[quote]
hip hop is my love, but i also frequent dnb gigs often and house parties when i can afford the drugs
[quote]
i love most of music except some cheesy trance, hard house and some sleepy pro house
generally i m very open minded! Wink
[quote]
voice: Sounds good, will definately check it out, any dj's/artists in particular that tickles your fancy that I can look out for? Always keen on local gigs but my mates are more into the rave scene, i'm the only one thats always been into hip hop so I don't get to go to many Sad

Hit me up on some good places where I can check it out! the only place i know of is the Fu.
[quote]
You should definately check out Breakers Delight, True Believers or Analog Breaks whenever they come around. They are the best nights out at the moment.
[quote]
yeah respects!
[quote]
Most of the Analog and Breakers parties are held at Mix. Breakers is monthly... not sure about Analog. (I'm from Wellington)

I'm just getting into breaks myself, but if you pop into the breaks forum there are heaps of artists and CDs to look out for in threads there. Smile
[quote]
Hiphop during the day, Dance by night...
[quote]
i listen to whatever tickles my fancy..

[quote]
MeLele be down fo hip hop, dnb, dub, house, trip hop, downbeats and a teeny weeny bit o' gee-tar music ....

however I must say that I ain't heard much breaks but from the little I have heard I definitely enjoy ... Breakers Delight was a fine introduction ... cheers pagey-nuts! Smile

I thought I was open minded about music. But now ... Admittedly, I have a severe dislike for prog, hard house and the majority of trance ... sorry folks ... don't mean to offend peeps but if we were all the same we'd be boring!

[quote]
"hip hop, dnb, dub, house, trip hop, downbeats and a teeny weeny bit o' gee-tar music" Im in love hahaha ;0p
[quote]
Too true. That's plenty of variety anyway meLele!

Just getting into hip hop myself, and probably only at home. I never really enjoy the vibe at pure hip hop gigs, for some reason. Maybe I'm just not used to it?

I'm totally down with the hip hop/DnB crossover though - pity there's not heaps happening on that front in Wellington at the mo. I fucking loved Dj Craze when he was here earlier in the year though - I guess he's what got me into hip hop...
[quote]
...breaks and garage it's hiphop for the non-purists

fools betta recognize...
[quote]
DJ Vadim spun the phatnezz variety at Galatos last month ...

the mans a legend! he swung from dub/dancehall to phat hip hop then straight into some crazy dnb basslines .... fully tripped me out man!

... should I mention his spastic scratching? it was like his fingers were havin an epileptic fit on the vinyls ya'll!!!!

noicccce!
[quote]
hey nacoa ... u played at home on the opening night yeah?!

whats the club like?
[quote]
for all u trance non-believers, go to an big event like Gods Kitchen and be blown away! one party is all it takes i swear
[quote]
yeah but then the drugs wear off and you realise the music isn't music. I'm a hiphop fanatic but frequent the dnb, if it's got good beats then I'm happy. But 4 on the floor nonsense - it doesn't do shit musically, even though it may be good to dance to at times. Personally I'd like to see more big hiphop-based parties, and not dumb commercial beats, more experimental hiphop styling, old school, underground, electro etc, hip hop and partying just go hand in hand but too often the hiphop you hear out is boring too.

Anyone know whose in the Ninebar for Andy C in Welly?
[quote]
Not sure, but it's been moved to Subnine... so I don't know if they'll open the Ninebar as well?

Could be Vee and guests as per usual though?
[quote]
i'm a straight hip hop head. i ain't much into dance music as a whole but if it sounds good... i like what i like.
[quote]
if i had to choose my fav genre..would be dnb...but been gettin into a bit of hip hop lately..and defintaley partial to a bit of trip hop and downbeat...some dub sounds as well.....

really only thing i don't relly like is the trance and hard house type stuff...guess i just don't get it
[quote]
"for all u trance non-believers, go to an big event like Gods Kitchen and be blown away! one party is all it takes i swear"
no thanks i don't like being stuck in crowds of thousands of suckers on ecstacy! trance is music for people who don't know shit about music! try listening to some "real techno" sometime. you sound like someone trying to convince someone to take their first pill!!
[quote]
.. they all come running back to the hiphop ..

:b
[quote]
If you talkin hip hop dance music, I checked out the one like 'Cool Hands Luke' ex. NZ lives in Sydney. At a film wrap party of all places. The brotha played a dope set of jump-up hip hop, funk, dancehall,saturdaynite-hands in the air and booty shake shit. Mad scratching, fuck all use of head phones and a crazy musical flow. This guy had hip hop dance music covered. No one could sit down!
Manual Bundy taught him to scratch.
You could give him a bag of shitty tunes and he'd make them sound dope!
[quote]
I just started mixin breaks and im trying to mix my hip hop and dnb into it. tis real hard but when it works its fucking fantastic

go the breakbeatt culture cross-pollination
[quote]
wen i'm playing a free for all play wotever you like set i'll play anything from hiphop, dancehall, dub, downbeat, techno, house, jungle,
bossanova, jazz, ambient, blah blah the list goes on and on. good music is good music, you know the drill.
[quote]
Hip Hop is my 1st love, 2nd D'n'B but I'm a bit sick of tha bling bling shit thats cumin out in hip-hop these dayz. On tha other hand, tha D'n'B sound is a bit regurgitated at tha moment, bar tha Brazilian flavas.
[quote]
"trance is music for people who don't know shit about music" - thats bullshit bro. there's sum complex shit involved if u had some actual appreciation of it.... however i guess it was expected, posting in a hiphop forum and all.

i like hiphop, trance, and rock/punk heaps - rather than just saying 'hiphop's where its at, everything else is shit'
[quote]
u wanna hear some real dope hip-hop? listen to the followin:

Blackalicious
Slum Village
Nappy Roots
The Roots
Blackstar
[quote]
Me too. I am branching out. I think it's limiting your listening if you just stick to one kind of music all the time.

I used to be into HardHouse, but that's just too repetitive for me now. I like the breaks and the bigger beats.

Also love Thievery Corporation. Check out their new title - Richest Man in Babylon.

They are their own label (Eighteenth Street Lounge) and they are also artists. Great.

Smile

Hip hop is good, but I have to listen to it a bit more to appreciate it more.
[quote]
"there's sum complex shit involved if u had some actual appreciation of it"
fuck carnt believe i missed this one.... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
i don't think hiphop where its at at all, i listen to heaps a shit but certainly not trance!
i appreciate that trance is rubbish.
[quote]
try a bit of :

the streets - has it come to this (high contrast remix)

it will blow yer tranceyass awayyyyyyy

*giggles*
[quote]
Hey Danielle....Thievery is wikkid aye ..... have u got mirror conspiracy as well?....track 3 on that is one of my fav tunes
[quote]
hip hop + drum and bass = the shit
the rest of the shit can fuck off
[quote]
thievery corps 1st album "sounds from thievery hifi" is by far their best...
"shaolin sattalite" = mean ass shit
[quote]
one day i will learn to spell and i will be happy.
[quote]
]

Atleast you spelled the word that mattered most right Razz
[quote]
mc evile - that's pretty ignorant. What if I was to say I only like the spanish and samoans, the rest of the world can fuck off?

:S
[quote]
I think you have 4gotten where Hip Hop and D'n'B came from ...

ol school R&B
funk
disco
jazz
rock and roll
and the blues

2 say that this shit can fuck off is pretty much saying fuck off 2 hip hop and D'n'B.

Al Green, James Brown, Prince, Rick James, Pink Floyd, Chaka Khan are just a few of the many and various styled pioneers of drum'n'bass & hip hop.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't hip hop all about breaking the mould and being diverse? How can you do that with an ignorant and close-minded attitude.

Every form of music has it's place.
[quote]
Yes James, er.. four, very good point.
And we cannot forget House music, hasnt done shit all for Hip-Hop, but jus dont forget it.

Whats cool is teh early morning sweaty hip-hop session of Presha @ Valve.

"Its gettin hot in herre, so take off all j00r clothes..."

Filthy madness.
[quote]
You what?

I dont recall that bit!

Not saying it didnt happen though Very Happy
[quote]
Seems Bn1 is God.

Please God, im not a liar.

He dropped Nelly please believe me.

:/
[quote]
If I was god I would be omniscient and would already know everything Presha played Razz

I wasn't dissing man, just surprised that he played nelly - must have been outside during that bit. Did catch a snippet of the shook ones remix, thats a good tune Smile
[quote]
Amen lordy.
[quote]
Ill listen to anything, but i mainly only buy Hip Hop... But in saying that, i just brought the new Adam F drum n bass remix of Kaos CD
[quote]
Hip Hop will always be my first love Smile
[quote]
a lot of the dudes i know who dont like trance/ techno music think its not 'manly' enuf for them, too flowery/emotional/epic blah blah... listen to one track like DJ Sammy and dismiss it all as rubbish.

hmm.. i guess hiphop and trance could be compared in the way that they both consist of a bass line/ drumbeat, with vocals layered over the top...(simplified anyway)
and tryin to validate the claim 'hiphop and d'n'b is the shit...everything else can fuck off' is pure ignorance - stop being so fuckn elitist

saying that trance is all repetitive bleepy, beep music for e-tards and ravers is like saying that hiphop is aggressive, ghetto music only for black ppl who can appreciate the true culture and that shit... its all stereotypical bollocks

tis all
[quote]
trance is for retards...
don't get trance and techno mixed up tho cotheman.
techno = jeff mills, space djz etc etc = good music.
trance = shit, every single time!
[quote]
I'm branching out after doing the HH/Trance thing to death...

I'm trying to experience as many genre's as possible, hip hop is next on my list of discovery, my last was breaks (love 'em breaks ...thanks to page for the constant bitching and yelling Wink ) We'll see how my little hip hop discovery goes ...mind yew... i think all the old school rock was always my first love *bogan at heart* Wink x
[quote]
Lineup for Derrick May includes Mr Big Stuff (Hip Hop RnB soul and funk) +, house and techno.
In my mind the future is in variety on the dancefloor
Its all funk music .
[quote]
"hmm.. i guess hiphop and trance could be
compared..."

please, just stop right there.
[quote]
For me my preference goes ... the drums and the bass, hip hop, good houseWink and then whatever else takes my fancy.

I loathe hard house and trance; no offence to those who do happen to like it, I just don't understand WHY?!?!
[quote]
Renn,
No offence taken.
Take a pill, feel the energy a good hard house dj can give you - I loathe trance too dude, but hard house is all good. No dramas at the parties, hot girlies, friendly peeps, good vibes. Was right into my hip hop and drum & bass b4 I went to my first good hardhouse party, but got into dramas nearly every weekend. Genre wars are silly, open your mind to new music and whatever you dig, you dig. Genre is nothin but a label.
[quote]

so you have to take pills to get into Hardhouse huh?
good vibes created totally by chemical substances are not real good vibes.
if you were right into hiphop and dnb what the hell happened? get some of your brain removed?
unlike renn i don't care if your offended...

i love this shit, hahahahahahahahahahahaha.
[quote]
fuck off, u dont need pills to like trance... i've only taken like, 1 in ma life... and i listen to trance every fuckn day..... its badd... r u sure ur not just one of these lil wigga dudes that thinks theyre tuff cos they listen to rap?? cos there's far too much of that shit.
[quote]
you are truly funny cotheman...
i'm a fuckin badass wigga with huge pants my cap backwards check shirt fresh sneakers cold stare smoke crack and i hate my parents. i'm real goddamn tuff.
you my friend are a stone cold fassy.
[quote]
B-Boy House

:futureslayer:
[quote]
another biggie thread goes down the Hall Of Shame ...
[quote]
fassy? wtf? .... just dont gimme ur 'trance is gay, too flowery, etc ; hiphop is badass, im badass cos i listen to it' sorta shit.....
[quote]
shotta j - you sound about as tough as my 10 year old sister, go dress up your Barbie dolls homo
[quote]
seems the cheese boys took my last post seriously...
oh dear...
i apoligise to all the regular biggie hiphop community, i just couldn't help myself on this occasion.
sometimes i forget the stupidity of many of the people who post on these boards, i've really gotta get a non office job so i don't spend all day on the net :/
actually your 10 year old sister is alot tougher than me of course because i am a limp wristed homosexual.
[quote]
"'hardhousejunkie'
shotta j - you sound about as tough as my 10 year old sister, go dress up your Barbie dolls homo"

Sounds er... really convincing with a name like hardhousejunkie

LOL
[quote]
hardhousejunkie ...

My eyes are open. I appreciate most forms of GOOD music, and enjoy a large variety. And don't need drugs to enjoy them either.

IMO Hard House is boring, repetitive and lacks soul (for the want of a better word).

And before you start jumping the gun, I have been to my fair share of HH gigs and listened to great deal of the music. Not only did the music irritate me, so did the muppets that attended.

I agree with you, genre wars are redundant and opinions will always differ.

But when HH is finally buried because of lack of innovation, decreased popularity and basically arse tracks; you will realise that you have wasted much of your time listening to crap.
[quote]
ok, wat makes u ppl all think that hiphop is better than trance??

u know, there's a forum for trance just like there's a forum for hiphop, and obviously there are followers of both genres....
but to say trance is inferior because of a lack of appreciation is average on ur part shotta, cos u r ignorant and just stereotyping the music/listeners Sad
[quote]
i dont like hardhouse either.

some trance is good, phsychodelic .. but im mostly into electro breakz/funk .. hiphop..

mainly because they have so many elements and sounds entangled into them, its not just all thump thump.

[quote]
I don't think you need to take pills to listen to any style of music if you like it. Maybe if you don't then you might but why listen to music you don't like?
Personally I have found the hip-hop scene to be as full of drug munters as the hardhouse/trance scene so to attack that scene on the basis that is it is just drug noise in nonsense.
Pills and Hip hop are actually a fun combo; helps us wiggas dance.
