Is XBMC better than Media Portal?

Ok. If this has support for a TV Tuner.. this will be epic.

It doesn't. I can only assume it MAY in future. But for anyone who wants a straight media box, I'll deploy this for them without a doubt.

Having used both, yes, considerably. MP is a clone of XBMC. MP is a bit of a turd, but it has TV tuner support, which we can't move away from at the moment in our use case.

the Live version has the potential to be SICK.

I'm downloading the Live version now. Will chuck it on a USB key later today and try it out on my media box.

The XBMC live on a USB key drive is fairly simple. Just burnt the ISO to a CD-ROM, then booted that and there was an option on the boot menu to create a version onto a USB key.

Report from nerdy neighbour is that media portal is infinitely better for managing TV series. XBMC only browses directories whereas MP aggregates across drives into series.

Note on USB key: Booted ok from it, but then just went to a login prompt. Didn't bother looking at why as I was too busy doing other stuff.

interesting, since MP is a steaming turd, and i certainly haven't found that function, although our TV shows are all on one massive RAID5 array in the server.

WISH THEY WOULD MAKE SOMETHING FOR TEH OLE XBOX 360 ALREADY!
