This is going to be another excellent series. Last time SA toured England Graeme Smith scored two massive doubles and made his stamp on World cricket. McKenzie is his new opening partner and together they are looking pretty solid. Rest of the team is pretty standard with Amla, Kallis, Prince, AB, Boucher, Ntini and Steyn. Then we have Morkel, Harris and Nel fighting for the remaining places. I think we will be silly not to try Harris out, he has been looking good, but we all know SA think they can take the world on with no spinner.

Prediction 2-0 or 2-1 at the most to South Africa if there is no rain but England will not win this Wink

Out game against Summerset arguably Englands best County team is Laughing we murdered them.

Well thats a bugger, should be an interesting series. England are a good test unit but do give sides opportunities. Opportunities that I cant see the filthy saffas sqaundering like NZ did, they are much too hardened for that

Should be 2-0, closer in Anderson keeps his form

Harris could get a shot if England decide they cant over power SA with pace and produce a dry track for Monty. They may (rightly or wrongly) figure spin as SA's biggest weakness
[quote]
yeah, hopefully I won't rain Neutral

sound africa should win this if the weather plays nice
[quote]
I think you fullas can afford to be cocky with this one. I would say that SA would have to lose this series themselves to do anything other than win it. England won't win on their own account.
[quote]
From past experience, it never pays to be cocky with the Proteas Razz

But yeah, quietly confident that they'll win Very Happy
[quote]
Steyn is key for me. He's SA's big weapon... Don't really rate the attack other than him, and we all know it's wickets that win games and series.

That said, I think Sidebottom, Anderson and company will trouble the SA batsmen much more than Reaction will give them credit for- particularly Sidebottom.

That said, SA start obvious favourites for me, as many of you have said. Will be close matches though, and I wouldn't put it out of England's reach personally. KP will be fired up for a big series, I get the feeling he's on the verge of something large.

KP seems to have gone downhill a bit recently tho... still has the talent, but has lost it a bit mentally

will either be a close series, or a rout to SA... England's player development has been pretty poor since the Ashes win... other than Sidebottom they haven't really produced anyone worth mentioning, and some players have gone downhill (Bell). As usual, their administration of a good pool of players is abysmal.

The only faint outside hope for England is if Flintoff returns and plays well.

Would have expected SAs bowlers to make a bigger impact than that, given SAs batting strength it looks like this match will be big runs

Shane Warne The Musical

World Premiere Season from 11 December at the Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne tickets and packages on sale now!

Weve put up with singing cats, tenor ghosts, dancing coal miners and drag queens with bridges on their heads - now the other wizard of Oz is spinning into Melbourne this summer. Shane Warne The Musical is a new breed of Aussie music theatre that smokes, drinks, carries a few extra kilos and still brings home the Ashes.

Written and composed by Eddie Perfect, who stars as the man himself, Shane Warne The Musical is a leg-spun yarn about what it means to fall arse-backwards into the Australian Dream and emerge a champion. This show sets out to both celebrate and understand the life of crickets most adored and maligned hero as he battles fame, failure, fidelity and the ferocious Australian media.

A sizzling live band and an exceptional cast bring to life a brilliant score which fuses soul, gospel, rock, power ballads, drum & bass, opera and even a touch of Bollywood. From Shanes hilarious dilemma of 'What and SMS I'm In' to his beautifully touching duet with Simone, 'Dancing With The Stars', each song captures a different side to this most complex of personalities.

Directed by Neil Armfield (Keating!, Stuff Happens, Exit The King, Candy), with editorial assistance from Casey Bennetto, the creator of Keating! and the design team being led by Tony Award winner Brian Thomson (Priscilla, Keating! Boy From Oz Arena) this is one of the most impressive creative teams ever assembled for an Australian musical premiere.

just more proof that there's zero sportsmanship left in cricket... I think the "Spirit of Cricket" section should be removed from the laws, it's just a joke.

I wonder if de Villiers would have bothered to claim that catch if the referal system has been in place... I think it might help some of these situations, altho it could be manipulated as well

as far as this match, England might force it into a 5th day, but no way they'll save the match. I think they'll lose it, and the series 2-0.

Harminson recalled....I love this bit

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/category/story.cfm?c_id=29&objectid=10523743

quote:
LONDON - Fast bowler Steve Harmison was recalled to a 13-man England cricket squad today as one of three changes to give the team greater variety for the third test against South Africa next week.

"He's been outstanding in four-day cricket and all forms of the game," Dale Benkenstein said.

"He's got great control at the moment and he's bowling with good pace and he's ready to get back in that test side.

"He adds a new dimension. He's got pace and bounce and he adds a fear factor into the game. With his pace, I don't think the tail will be hanging around too long."

.......

South Africans are afraid of pace!

Laughing
[quote]
Laughing I was reading that last night and had a great laugh at it. Honestly if there is anyone that will not add feat its Harmison and his pace. Was he not the one sent home from a tour because he missed home Laughing

Music
[quote]
Thats the interesting part about his selection, he has been very poor away from home for a long time. But he could well bar up on home soil and become the force he once was again....who knows with these mentally flighty types
[quote]
Absolutely right Maestro. I'd be very wary of Harmison if I were Smith & co. If he hits the right spots, he's one of the world's best.

It's just as likely (maybe even more likely) that he'll just have another one of his mental spazzes though Razz
[quote]
gummi_bear said:

Laughing commmmme on! You mean like if any other bowler hits the right spot?

Music
[quote]
No, his pace and (more importantly) his height give him an edge over most other bowlers.

Well, that's when he's not spraying it everywhere and looking like he's about to cry every time he bowls a wide :>
[quote]
Yep when Harmison has rhythm = steepling bounce which is almost impossible to play

If he starts poorly though you wont improve and his international career is over
[quote]
Laughing Im sorry but I just can't see him doing anything. He got a pretty good domestic season behind him but that says nothing ...

Music
[quote]
2005 Harmison: world beater.
2006-08 Harmison: Sad shadow of his former self.

He needs confidence, if he can't regain it in the first session, he'll spray it all over the place for the rest of the test.

I thought Hoggard would get recalled before Harmison personally, obviously they're not expecting it to swing. I hope his recall isn't at the expense of Broad, he'd be pretty hard done by if so!
[quote]
Broad is batting well but thats not his job, and the saffas have looked almost totally at ease with his bowling. Its no wonder cos I think hes actually just like a south african fast bowler ....honest as hell straight up and down the wicket trier...except about 10 kmhr slower and no mongrel in him

# Fully expect Broad to be dropped
[quote]
actually he prob just reminds me of white lightening with his action/looks
[quote]
quote:
Andre Nel: A gentle giant off the pitch, Nel takes white-line fever to pantomime extremes of absurdity with his alter-ego, "Gunther", a madman who lives in the mountains in Germany and suffers from oxygen deprivation. The nickname was bestowed on him a few years ago by one of the South African technical team, and given the snarling and grimacing that marks his average performance, it has unsurprisingly stuck. "Gunther will definitely be coming out - there's no doubt about that," said Nel, as he prepared to take the field in his first Test since the West Indies series in January. South Africa will be without Dale Steyn, but their aggression levels will remain pumped to the max.
