I think mines fucked. I was driving to work this morning and kept hearing a funny noise so turned off my music. Kind sounds like something loose flipping round!! Would that be the cambelt?
Im getting two new tyres today before i go for a warrent at $250 a pop
yup if your cambelt goes, best case the engine stops, worst case it stops in spectacular fashion as the pistons hit the valves causing MUCH pain and suffering.

Just is right, cambelt doesn't turn.. engine doesn't go, likely to root it well and proper too.
Perhaps its one of your other belts?? Air Con, Power Steering, Alternator (the battery charging thing), or even your fanbelt?? (far keeps car cold)?
Its kinda impossible to guess without even knowing what sorta car / year it is.
Get someone to help you.. someone with a small amount of car knowledge should be able to give you a rough guess.. otherwise take it to the shop soon.
yup, what smiley said. most toyota engines are non-interference.
and each and every single car with a transversely mounted engine (fwd), and virtually all modern longitudinal engines (rwd), don't have a fan belt since they have electric fans.
cambelt replacements suck because on most modern cars they are a pig to get to, and also you have to replace the waterpump and a few other things usually, simply because for the amount of about you're forking out for, it makes more sense to do them while you've got that part of the engine opened up anyway.
nope, as we said, if the cambelt was broken you car wouldn't be running at all. plus they don't really get loose, they are running under such tight tolerances they when they go, they go.
most likely, it's the accessory belt. pop the bonnet and have a look for anything that's obviously broken.
Haha i think i'll get one of the guys at work to pop the bonnet and have a look, i know a lil about cars but if i saw something that was broken i probably would have a clue what it was

An the guy at the tyre shop told me that my big tyres are doing more damage than i thought! Putting strain on the gear box etc as well as the rubbing which i already knew
best i can tell, RAV's of that year came with 215/70-16 tyres from the factory. it would be highly unlikely (read: impossible) that a 20mm wider tyre is going to cause you gearbox issues.
although if it's 4wd, you can (will) cause damage to the transfer case if you have different diameter tyres all around. this includes having brand new tyres on one axle and worn ones on the other.
Its kind of a really violent ticking sound, quite noticable when the revs are low, very much engine orientated. I don't seem to feel that is low on power but that might be an oversight on the girl side of things
