Definately better producer than dj but so good to hear the bells, jaguar, man with the red face, strings of life etc in their original forms sounding fresh as daisies alongside today's output...

Thats not how reports from 3 people who went there. All said that he played a really good set and there was a very good vibe ( which IMO is the most important aspect of any gig. I have seen some brilliant mixing done ( especially by a young guy here in the AK) but the vibe a lot of the time is missing. At any rate I would have luved to gone and seen him. Also Jamie Lidell playing down the road if my memory serves me correct ( which by all accounts after the boozy holiday I had may not be 80% yet)

What part? I definately heard these tracks in his NYE Sydney set. I guess the producer comment is personal opinion - just think whilst the guy is an awesome dj, he is an even better producer. Smile

I'm obviously no techno connousieur but what is it about him as a DJ that people don't rate?

Saw him play at Southport Weekender a few years ago - he was playing a back-room/eclectic set and it was close to amazing. Plenty of intriguing selections and mid-tempo business but he moved the floor the whole set.

As for his productions - there weren't many tunes I enjoyed last year more than his remix of Morgan Geist "Detroit".

Thought that was his weakest thing in years imo.

Different strokes.

I like him as a DJ now, he can layer stuff and freak it, like a semi-studio session.

I think Craig was known for being a bit kooky in his DJing, similar to Ashley Beedle. Neither were technical geniuses but were so good musically it usually didnt' really matter. With technology (and probably tons of gigs) Craig seems to have stepped it up a lot though. I thought he was good all the times I've seen him.

Yeah... he was just a producer first, then a dj. Don't think he really wanted to be the best meat matcher in teh world. But now he can concentrate more on equing and tweaking, effecting, layering etc he's got it more down.

Totally tore it up last time he was in Welly to a rammed Sub 9 Music

I got to see him dj in New York last year and he was much better, played a great set.
