Is it hypocritical to practise contraception but to also believe it wrong to terminate a pregnancy? In your view, how is preventing life so fundamentally different to stopping life?

The way I see it, for the first couple of months the foetus isn't even a child - it's just a bunch of cells that keep dividing. Imo, breaking these cells up isn't really much worse than stopping them coming together in the first place.

People say that by having an abortion, you do away with a life before it even has a chance. Is this not what contraception does? Does it not also thwart the possibility of a new life before it has even begun?

Its not logical in the slightest, its a hangover from the church when the power of the church was in its numbers so the more kids you had the more power. Early christianity was political in most repects, even the religious holidays were timed to pagan events to make converting people easier (jesus was born somewhere mid november but there is a pagan ritual on the 25th and the roman celebration of the god of chaos ended on the 24th *i think*)

contraception is preventing life the same way that a blow job is so arguing it is fairly silly unless you find a religious fanatic (which is unlikely on this site - try prodeathpenalty.org Wink ).

I wonder if as male contraception methods are more accepted they will be considered the same as female contraception. Given surgical methods are mostly reversible now and getting cheaper it wont be too far that guys will be lining up to get rid of the chance of shot gun weddings and child support Smile

I know it sounds silly - the reason I bring it up is that I find it weird that people can be so violently anti-abortion and go on and on about getting in the way of the grand scheme of things and yet still condone contraceptive methods like the morning after pill - which is imo a bit like having an abortion.

I support both contraception and abortion. I just think a lot of people who are happy with the idea of contraception like to sit on a high-horse where abortion is concerned.

Check the last post on the Religions and Beliefs thread in regards to this. I have added a post that whilst you may not believe it to be true I think is worth a read regardless.

But as far as this topic and the Abortion thread goes I support Contraception and Abortion. It is a sensitive issue I agree - but it all depends on the many different variables that will vary in each single situation making it difficult for us to draw one size fits all insert collective value here (----). It must come down to the Individual and the responsibilities of the choice made by him/her.

All we can do is educate and hope for people to think carefully about the consequences of their actions and make the right decisions for each given situation.
