after a bigger monitor to plug into my macbook 13" at home.

im not really sure on exactly what i should looking for in one monitor to the next... im going to be using it for web development (visual studio etc), not high-end graphic design/editing or anything like that.

ive found the following on the PB-tech website:

Dell U2412M 24" UltraSharp LED IPS Monitor
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=MONDEL0243&name=Dell-U2412M-24-UltraSharp-LED-IPS-Monitor---DVI-+-

LG W2753VC-PF BLK Glossy 27"
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=MONLGL2754&name=LG-W2753VC-PF-BLK-Glossy-27-Full-HD-Wide-LCD-(1920

Samsung PX2370 23" Wide LED Monitor
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=MONSSM2375&name=Samsung-PX2370-23-Wide-LED-Monitor-1920-x-1080-ful

using an Apple Cinema Display (24 or 27") as the benchmark, which of those comes closest for bang for buck?
[quote]
I'd get the Dell, It might be the most expensive but its got the best resolution which makes a difference with a big screen. Infact my 24" is a Dell too.

My work on is a 24" Samsung and quite happy with that but it must be a better model cause it supports the higher resolution.

Dell IPS is going to be the closest you find to a Cinema Display. Also it's the only one of the 3 listed with a Display Port connector, saving you a converter.
[quote]
yeah i would have to use the dvi port on my macbook, is that the connector you mean kris?

how about this 27"
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=MONSSM2771&name=Samsung-P2770FH-27-LCD-Monitor-1Ms-response--1920-

i like that idea of the 27" as it would allow me to have two apps side by side. im used to having two 19" monitors side by side at work.

This. I'm actually going to buy one of those next week. With iFocus be sure to ring and ask if they have stock, their website stock levels are often wrong.

From the options you selected I would probably go Dell because it is IPS, but its mainly because I like 16:10 monitors

$300 more for the same resolution (1920x1200) as the dell, but better brightness (300 v 400). is that worth it?
[quote]
it's dell u2410 that you need to compare it to and it has 2 hdmi ports for starters

That one went for $499

will go with the Dell option i think

vs

Samsung

its for website coding, i'm thinking 27 will be worth the extra over a 23 or 24 inch..? i don't think the gf would let me get away with two cheap 23s for home use even if they were cheaper Laughing
[quote]
trade in gf for two 30" imo

Question about moniters/tv's...I was thinking about buying a couple of 30 inch moniters to replace my 22 inch ones, but they are pretty damn expensive

Friend of mine who doesnt reeeeally tend to know what hes talking about told me "Instead of that I should just go buy a large flat screen TV, plonk it on my desk, plug my PC into it and away I go"

ermmmm....really?

[quote]
Yup I agree. Just get hidef LCD and be done with it. Sammy UA32d5000 for example.

Or the 27

You could do but you'll find the specs are down on a TV than a monitor. IE those 30" Monitors should do 1900x1200 resolution. A full hd tv will do umm something like 1400 x 1080. You might find the response time and the contrast ratio down a bit too.

What was the price you found btw? Last time I looked the Dell 30" was about 2K? A guy here at work has one...
[quote]
Personally I think 2K is beyond the price point, I'd rather just have three or four 24" screen's and spend the extra $$ on whores or something.
[quote]
Yep 2k mate..and yep so do I, and errrr so would I obv

Slow reposnse rate is unacceptable given I will be requesting multiple responses constantly and delays are both upsetting and expensve. I think you just highlighted the reason why not....I knew it was too good to be true

A full HDTV will do 1920x1080, that's what full HD means.

But yeah, I've seen it done and it's not pretty. A 30" PC monitor usually has much higher resolution than a 30" TV - as noted, full HDTV is 1920x1080, the Dell 30" is 2560x1600 - *that's* why they cost so much more. The fewer pixels over the same area means the HDTV looks like shit when running a computer display, it's not smooth and crisp at all like the PC monitor is.

As a compromise, I'd suggest 2 x 27" PC monitors. You can do that for under a grand and only be slightly worse off in inches, but better off in resolution. If you really wanted more screen area, you could always add a 3rd later on.
[quote]
Yeah you don't need 30" Maestro... Unless you're planning on 20+ tabling some time soon Razz For 8-10 tabling two 27" will be way more than enough.
[quote]
Im already 8 tabling on my two 22 inchers. Got to the point where Im pretty sure I can add 2-4 more tables without compromising ROI tooooo much. Bought a new box recently that can handle HEM and multiple tables n rooms better, so its now Volume ftw obviously

3 Moniters feels like my eyes will have too much ground to cover acvrossd the desk. But will I fit 6 tables on a 27? (without too much overlapping) On a 22" four tables do overlap but only by a few mills so its fine. Anything up tpo a 3rd overlap and Im unhappy
[quote]
actualy...how many tables do you think would fit on a 30 inch?.....I could of course just buy one
[quote]
You can fit 9-12 tables on a 30" pretty easily.. 6-8 tables per 27" would be comfy too
[quote]
well, that really depends on the resolution of the monitor. Which is really what you should be looking at instead of just raw inches...
[quote]
Buy a 32 inch Full HD LCD Display TV - works just as well :>

This is a 30" running 2560 x 1600 Maesty:

just finished two weeks testing my ua40d5000 out running off hdmi and wireless coonection and worked just dandy for me surfing and stuff, not serious gaming or anthing

Example: say you want to buy a monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (mostly 24 inch monitors) and you are wondering how many PokerStars tables will fit on this screen without resizing and without any overlap. You know that the resolution of a default PokerStars table is 800 x 570 pixels:
1920/800 = 2.4 = 2; 1200/570 = 2.1 = 2 and 2 x 2 = 4 default sized tables without overlap.

Or the other way around: you want to know what screen resolution you need to fit 12 Full Tilt Poker tables resized to the minimum resolution (480x350 pixels) without overlap:

4 x 3 = 12; 4 x 480 = 1920 pixels; 3 x 350 = 1050 pixels.

So you'd need a monitor with a resolution of at least 1920 x 1050 pixels, which means that, again, a 24 inch monitor (1920 x 1200 pixels) would be great.
