what would be the specs of your dream computer?

ram? cpu? motherboard? monitor? etc etc
[quote]
the laptop BT brought with him to Two Tribes was mint, the monitor was like 20inch big and it was a widescreen I believe making viewing DVDs a pleasure!

I guess I gotta put a lot of RAM in it, so it'll make playing games a better experience and also GForce graphics card

Smile

Specifying ram/cpu/motherboard seems a bit silly - everone wants the current fastest, and as much ram as possible. I think other things are more important now:

- doesn't crash
- software problems take care of itselfa
- virus free
- no security problems

Apart from that a nice, clear, large LCD (not wide screen for me), dvd writer, and good cpu/ram/gpu specs. Low weight isn't so important for me, I barely ever move mine, but it'd be a bonus.

Maybe if I save my pennies I can buy this one...

That and the fact that I have actually used macs in a work environment as well (IT administrator of an organisation that used macs in the design studio and PCs in the admin side).

This would do the trick for me

Thats more like it. Much more interesting than a boring old PC Smile
[quote]
heh lets have it instead of a screen project a 3d holographic image up into space which is fully interactive meaning no physical mouse or keyboard? u have a 3d holographic keyboard for when u do need one though Razz

How about a doughnut shaped desk where you sit in the middle that is completely surrounded by multiple screens.
[quote]
thats kinda what it was like when I flew the Air NZ flight simulator a few years back - well quite a few actually
the pod you sat in effectively had three screens - one in front and one on each side

lots of the guys here at work have got two monitors hooked up to their pc's giving them lots of acreage....
[quote]
I used to run 2 screens but now i prefer just one, a friend of mine convinced his boss to give him 3 screens (hes a sys admin for a number of servers so always has 10+ windows open) so i guess for a situation like that a grand canyon would be the shit. Cant see my boss forking out for one of those anytime tho.

well i was keeping this within the realms of reality..... if not, then.....

i would have a pc with a processor and video card for each pixel on the screen and a trillion gig hard drive with a billion gigs of ram and imax for my screen Smile

I wasn't referring to what was outside of reality. Just thought some people might put more interesting stuff besides desktop PCs (like the Cray X1 I want or trance_ra's 32 processor Sun box).
