Hip Hop is a genre of music mainly dominated by black artists but still appeals to both black and white people.
Do you feel as if black people can relate more to messages in hip hop so the music "belongs" to them more? Or is hip hop music that everyone can listen to and enjoy no matter what nationality you are?

Is there a colour division?

Your thoughts.....

Debatable topic X-press.

It originated from blacks but now hip-hop has evolved and its a worldwide thing.

There are some white rap artists. But what I wanna know is what black people think of white people listening to hip hop and gettting into the culture eg. at a Polynesian festival or something-is it culturally exclusive.
If I drive my car with loud sounds around South Auckland playing rap music, do I look like a tryhard "wigga" or respected for just liking the music too.

hip hop is universal. the problem is, the only hip hop we hear, is by black people (except eminem).

Back in the day I probably would have called you a tryhard X-Press. But nowadays its a pretty common sight.
It also depends on what tunes youre bumping in your car.
If your sitting there cranking the latest '20x a day Mai Fm track' Im probably gonna think your a tryhard whether youre black or white.

BUT, there are white dudes who dress like hardcore gangstas and they are tryhards. The deal is, u ain't gotta dress up to like hip-hop. My friend looks like a fuckin hippie. Dreads, weird clothes, goes to raves, everything. But we MC together & he loves hip-hop. And he's white.

which is why HIP HOP is universal, my friend.

I have a friend, too .... we have dubbed him endearingly as "The Hippie" ... he LURVES hip hop, like me!!

It ain't about colour, it may have been in the past when hip hop first originated but these days its all about attitude!

I beg to differ, maybe you're the only one who listens to more black people who rap. My ear hears hiphop from all corners of the world - France, Australia, NZ, Germany, UK, Denmark. Not necessarily put out by Black people.

As for my thoughts on white people getting down with the hip-hop scene in NZ - i'm black, i don't care if you're white, asian whatever, if you enjoy it - the more the merrier!

I'm a sucker for making assumptions that people who dress a certain way like hip-hop. Can't help it. Sad
