Poor Hillary. Her memory of her arrival in Kosovo 12 years ago didn't quite match the videotape. "ducking for cover under sniper fire." LULZ.

As I mentioned in the Obama thread, I think Clinton is in for a credibility pasting in the coming weeks once the archives have been trawled through.

Spending time opening schools and picking flowers doesn't really compare to her claims of experience during Bill's tenure IMO.

Such a massive slip up by Clinton, and the Aide is not helping "what she meant to say was there was sniper fire in the hills IN THE HILLS!!!" Riiiight.

I don't actually see it as a big deal, it's lolz more than anything.

I can just imagine Bill: "Hillary, dear, what were you on???"

doesn't anyone realise that sniper fire is politico speak for "there is media present", obviously even her aide didn't get that memo

things have slipped a lot since Monica's days of briefing Mrs Clinton
[quote]
GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said today she made a mistake when she claimed she had come under sniper fire during a trip to Bosnia in 1996 while she was first lady.

In a speech in Washington and in several interviews last week Clinton described how she and her daughter, Chelsea, ran for cover under hostile fire shortly after her plane landed in Tuzla, Bosnia.

Several news outlets disputed the claim, and a video of the trip showed Clinton walking from the plane, accompanied by her daughter. They were greeted by a young girl in a small ceremony on the tarmac and there was no sign of tension or any danger.

"I did make a mistake in talking about it, you know, the last time and recently," Clinton told reporters in Pennsylvania where she was campaigning before the state's April 22 primary. She said she had a "different memory" about the landing.

"So I made a mistake. That happens. It proves I'm human, which, you know, for some people, is a revelation."

It was during an editorial board interview with the Philadelphia Daily News, published yesterday, that Mrs Clinton was finally forced to confess she "misspoke" about the Tuzla trip.

"I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things n millions of words a day n so if I misspoke it was just a misstatement," she said.

But an Obama spokesman, Tommy Vietor, noted she made her claims in a scripted speech. "When you make a false claim that's in your prepared remarks, it's not misspeaking, it's misleading," he said.

Mrs Clinton has been accused similarly of overstating her participation as first lady in brokering peace in Northern Ireland and ending the Kosovo refugee crisis.

Maybe we should open Obama's archives.

See the thing about having done things that can be criticised is this: at least you did things.

Obama's archives would show nothing more substantial than combing his hair.

It's not what is in her archives which makes her look bad, it's that she grossly misrepresented what she was up to. In the next week, as more details are read, more examples will come out no doubt.

Did it ever occur to anyone that getting a president who doesn't have a long history in the Washington political machine might actually be the best thing that could happen to the US (and international relations/peace)?

And if a company is going down the gurgler due to mismanagement the obvious solution is to hire a McDonalds burger flipper as CEO, because he DOESN'T have a long history amongst the mismanagement?

Nope.

McCain is old fashioned. He doesn't start wars, but he damned sure finishes them.

I wonder if she was going for the ‘more people will hear the lie than the retraction’ angle?

Otherwise wtf was she thinking??

That is an example of what it would not be like. My example was more of a: McDonald's is going down the gurgler and saying "let's hire the guy with the good ideas, who proposes some ways to fix some of the things the vast majority of the company are worried about, and who isn't one of the manager who got us in this position in the first place. We recognise he hasn't run a McDonald's at the highest level, but the people who have aren't exactly doing a good job - and they wont change their ways no matter what."

anyone see the item on the news over Hilary's gaff?

Great footage of muliple sniper instances over the course of her campaign then showing the actual footage of her landing... I think the media have owned her (to use the language of the young)

as for Obama - he's published his tax return and is suugesting other candidate do the same - he's playing a real clever game here

but lets not forget it is but a game - he still needs to get the nomination and in America like many third world states in an election anything and anyone can win

jeeze they voted bush in twice... need I say more

Yeah, very embarrassing for Clinton.

I felt almost sorry for her, because let's face it, she was just embellishing the truth - common parlance in the world of politics.
[quote]
hard not to feel sorry for her - especially as one knows she can't back down or admit to lying/embellishing the facts

one can almost hear the laughter coming out of camp obama, the whitehouse and every newsroom on the planet

saying that its the US - they will have found new scandal soon enough to edify us all

edification not infotainment maybe

For sure. It's definitely going towards the Whitewater thing imo. Her work as a lawyer during Bill's tenure allegedly had some very dubious dealings. When her billing details were mysteriously discovered at the White House after investigators had long sought them over the whitewater affair... well, needless to say, it will involve her taxes... which Obama is lining her up for. Either she keeps mum and looks like she's hiding something, or she opens up and risks being called out on something.

As for bush being voted in twice... I agree. Factor in everything, arguments for/against any candidate based on their old history or recent performance... and, well.. Bush disproves it all.

Ms Clinton is also starting to have a mare in her now publicly disagreeing with her husband.

It may not be a big thing (in her ability to run the country) but it looks kind of strange to go for the "two presidents for the price of one" angle and then disagree on things. Either he will be a close advisor, or he won't. Either way it paints her in a poor light to large groups of voters. She really can't have it both ways in the eyes of the media.

Re: her advisor Mark Penn, ... what poor timing for him to come out and say he worked for a company that was involved in free-trade meetings with Columbia despite her public objection to dealing with the same people.

She's not having a good run of it.... she also told a story, full of errors and made up quotes, to demonstrate an Ohio healthcare case. It's the excuse for the misleading story is the thing which makes her look bad,

quote:
A Clinton spokesman, Mo Elleithee, said candidates would frequently retell stories relayed to them, vetting them when possible. "In this case, we did try but were not able to fully vet it."

- Um... How about not telling the story then? Every small error is amplifies in this race. Obama doesn't even need to do anything but pick up the newspaper these days to win votes from Clinton.

By the internal fighting needed to get the nomination? Kinda agree, and this is why I have gone off Clinton - she seems to be the worst at damaging the party just to ensure she's the one on top of it. Undoubtedly Obama does it as well but seemingly not to the same level...
[quote]
Yeah, the in-fighting.

Attn: Hilary

Using Republican talking points against your democratic rival only helps McCain.

Oh, and LULZ at getting that dirt off ya shoulders Laughing
[quote]
Obama is probably the first serious presidential candidate ever to come out and say "I been listening to Jay-Z recently. American Gangster is a great album - he got flow. I like Kanye too" Laughing
Handled it beautifully, turned around and said "the message is wrong some times, uses the n-word too frequently, degrades women etc but this music connects to young people and I'd love to talk to these guys about how we can do that better"
[quote]
I think, once they decide their candidate it is going to be a battle which McCain will struggle to get through without resorting to complete nastiness. The Dems might seem like they're in-fighting too much but they can come out swinging with "do you really want another eight years of what we've just had?"

McCain will struggle to distance himself from the absolute balls-ups after balls-ups which his party caused and which he was part of many events. He can try and will paint the picture of moving forward or a new Republican way but there is so so so much damaging ammo on them it'll make swift boat-type PR campaigns seem tiny.
