Chris Sandow. Debate.

Alright so today/yesterday Chris Sandow accepted a 550k a year contract to Paramatta

"Chris Sandow to Parramatta at $550k a year," Crowe wrote on Twitter.

Already this has blown up across many Australian sport sites.

Is Sandow really worth that much? Should Crowe have tweeted his contract value (if its true)? South play Paramatta again later in the season, is it fair to sign a player to another club during the season?

Overall, should they install a rule where players can only be sold/brought during the off season? Maybe they could introduce direct trades during the regular season and only discuss new player/club contracts in the off season?

Thoughts?

Surely he would have to be on some sort of week to week contract or have some sort of release clause (which I have never heard of in the NRL) otherwise I can't see how he could escape his contract with Souths. Unless of course the Rabbitohs wanted shot of him it was terminated mutually.

Under a salary cap system I can't see how a player trade system during the season would work, the current date around negotiating with players coming off contract at the end of the season seems to work well enough.

I think he's a bit overpriced at that but there's hardly any halves talent sprouting up at the Eels. They're dying to bring in some new guys. Mid season swaps are kinda common but yeah, it can get emotional. Soward was one high profile mid season swap in recent years when he skipped out on the Roosters to join the Dragons and play the best footy of his career.

Crowe shouldn't really have tweeted that figure. It's a bit of a pissy display from him. Poor form.

First off a player is worth whatever people are willing to pay him. No one good wants to join the Eels so if they want anyone they need to pay.

Crowe is furious at Sandow because he feels he was let down by the young player. Souths didn't want to let him go but was unable to match the higher money Eels was willing to pay, or perhaps didnt think he was worth it. Crowe pretty much feels that he gave Sandow a chance when no one else wanted to and kept him here in the NRL and at the first corner Sandow is turning his back on the club. Sandow has been in a lot of trouble and they stuck with him, so can see why Crowe is so angry.

I have no problem with the mid season swaps (not the case here Sandow is only going to the Eels next season) or buying that goes on.

I'm glad the cheeky little cunt is off to the Eels...Now I can support the Bunnies again.

And $550K per year....wow....that is way too much for him.

So many better halves than him. Don't rate him at all.

No way he's on 550K -- pretty sure Parramatta are denying that amount. I actually like Sandow, he has all the attributes of a good halfback. He attacks the line and has a pretty good step and fend on him so can beat the defender as well as put runners in holes. Good kicking game as well.

he misses a_lot of tackles, also scepties on 550k. seems to me Russ was just being in character ie a dick. Frustrated that his super star investment is falling apart ie Burgess out for the season etc

He's also known to crack/lose the plot when the pressure is on in big moments...but yeah, he'd walk into most Warriors sides over the years

The reported deal is actually $1.6mil over 4 years. So more like $400 000 a season and that seems more realistic.
