I was thinking that yet again this morning.

Anyone want to chip in for some Prozac for Mr Rattue?
[quote]
Ha ha ha ha rrrrrrr. I LOVE Rattues articles Laughing

You must realise that he writes controversilly (hay guys I made a word up) on purpose right?

But the beautiful thing is he also tells it like it is. He mixes the kind of cold hard realities that people generally dont want to hear, with some pretty blantant wind ups and evidence of his personal bias.

But if you wade through the obvious crap/wind ups he normally 100% right in what he is saying. Make no mistake the man is very astute. MUCH more astute that the likes of Jessup.

Its just not fun for a lot of people to read. Which creates controversy. Which creates enemies for himself. Which sells papers. Its pretty obvious whats hes up to. And Im not saying you guys are so naive that you dont know that. Just....yeah.Its amusing. Laughing I havent read his peice today yet but I look forward to seeing which one of your personal heros he has vilified RA and Funk. Froggy Im guessing he's called out Saffa rugby or Warriors season 08 or Sonny Bill

/nips out to get der paper

Laughing You are a cheeky cunt Maestro but very correct. I'm well aware of his writing style but like I said to PFunk before its getting a little boring. Your perception that he tells it the way it is, is wrong! He has a hate agenda on anything thats got to do with the Warriors and its very boring. The boys are being bagged left right & center over the ditch without them having to come home and put up with bullshit week in and out!

LOL. Sonny Bill. Rattue haaaaates Sonny, and tbh I dont agree with him there. I love Sonny Cool

However. Its another excellent article from Rattue for mine. The only thing I can really *disagree* with is his assertion that Sonny cant learn much or develop his game under Tana. Sure Tana is a novice coach, but he was a centre so...

Its also unfair to literaly bag Sonny for getting injured, but thats just his dislike of Sonny manifesting itself

Everything else seems pretty astute and on the money to me

but OMG @ Bagging TANA fucking UMAGA. He's just increased his army of enemies by 40% Laughing
[quote]
^ Laughing @ Rattue bagging Tana. The guy is a LEGEND. Who cares if he's a shit coach...anyway, it's comic book king's fault for hiring a novice in the first place.

And enough with dissing SBW already...sheesh.

BTW, apparently the Bulldogs Mad Monday session had a french theme. Patton was dressed up as a french fries box with a sign saying 'at least I stayed'. Laughing

I wonder if they ate their french food with a wooden spoon Froggy
[quote]
I can't stand him.
[quote]
When did Umaga win a S14, World Cup, or NPC?

Ever? Never.

Winners win. Umaga = loser
[quote]
Does that make you a loser as well vadz? Where is your titles?

vadz vadz vadz, your rambling truly do make little sense at times....Tana won plenty of Tri Nations tiles no? Grand Slams? Belted the Lions?

Calling Tana "a loser" is outright lunacy Laughing

Tri Nations and Bledisloe cups aren't REAL competitions - they're too short to count.

Stirling Mortlock = winner
Tana Umaga = loser

FACE THE FACTS

I take it that you're not a fan of the "best player to never win a ...." threads?
[quote]
Maybe Vads has Tana confused with Taine Confused
[quote]
NZers have 2 huge issues, which I will go onto later, and which explain why we never win world cups

1. "Best player syndrome"
2. "One game syndrome."

Sports = success. Talent isn't the same as success. The quality of a player is derived from OUTPUT = success, not INPUT = talent
[quote]
Has Tana actually played in a RWC losing side?

He wasn't on the field for the last two losses, no?
[quote]
OK, explanation.

"Best player syndrome" is some sort of logically sound but factually incorrect perception that tries to somehow separate out an individual's performance from an entire team's performance. This is especially common nowadays with coaches "picking winners" at youth group levels e.g. Isaia Toeava rather than letting them develop through with their peer group. What happens is that players with good inputs (talent) but no outputs (success) get into teams. they know how to PLAY, but they don't know how to WIN.
What is necessary is an approach that picks good players who WIN. Output = success. Very notable in football (soccer) where coaches will stick with veterans who can win games over flashier players with loads of talent but no output.

"One game syndrome" is where people only remember the last game, or let one game dominate their perception of a player. One great run becomes a player with "an amazing ability to break tackles", or one bad game becomes " a risky choice due to his tendency to turn the ball over." You have to judge players, and teams, over a lengthy period, because so much of sport is about luck and the bounce of the ball.
One game syndrome is an excuse for the shitty, lazy analysis "analysis" we see on TV today. The sort of stuff that called Spencer a "risky choice" when during the latter half of his career he actually kicked more than he ran.

So are we all agreed that Brian O'Driscoll is shit at rugby?

Isn't an argument sound when it is valid and true?
[quote]
If picking the best players worked, why haven't we won a World Cup since 1987?
Why were the Auckland-heavy ABs sides so dominant even when certain individuals e.g. Carter/McCahill might not have been the very best player in their position in the country?
[quote]
So we should pick the Crusaders then?
