Wgtn Anniversary weekend, tickets $125 ....that's quite a bit more than last year i think. website ain't up yet but URL is www.checkpointcharlie.co.nz
Anyone plan 2 go?
[quote]
What's the story with the event - what's on? (sorry, relative dance scene newbie here...)

Excuse blatant ignorance.
[quote]
want to go to it, just depends on if I can gat enough funds together and time off from work.

I've only been told about it so dont know how true the following are but...
Its the oldest dance party in NZ, its run by the gangs so there are no cop problems. Its on the edge of a national park in the grounds of an old assylum. From what I understand its a lot like the gathering but a different crowd (due to the gang influence) but everyone is 'loved' up anyway.

Maybe someone can enlighten the subject further for me/us.

ive heard its all good
what is the date

"its run by the gangs so there are no cop problems"

?!?!?!?!?

Gangs running dance parties, what on earth will come next? Not that I can refute this little tidbit, but come on, does anyone really think that gangs really run dance parties along with their usual core business ventures like meth labs, dope plantations and car theft rings?
[quote]
Funny thing I heard a while back that the Gangs stayed well away from MDMA. Didn't sitv well with there image. Can you imagine 'give me your shit or I'll kill you - but hey, I love you bro'
[quote]
i'm keen, went last year and it was PRIMO!
[quote]
I was gonna go the the Big Day Out...though the line up looks shit!
So I'm keen to give Check Point Charlie a go!
[quote]
Just on the gang note: Gangs are very much involved in the dance scene AND ecstasy is VERY big with them. Lots of people take it nowadays and it is big bickies. How much do you all pay from pills and nasty white powders. I have to admit I've had an inside look at some gang scenes . . . and I've seen many a black-clad tuff guy gurning his face off jumping around to trance/hardhouse/similar genres. Dance parties are a "complementary product" to their drug running so it is logical that they are involoved.

please have a look at my "Where does it all come from . . . ?" thread on enhanced.
[quote]
Yeah, I stay drug/pill free, so I wouldn't have a clue.

But CPC would have to be pretty good to justify the $$... is it a camp-style thing similar to the gathering?
[quote]
Its held @ Lake wairarapa 10 mins from my homehole of Featherston.

It used to be called MooLoo land cause its in prime rural farmin area.

Apparently either Sanchez or Fatboy Slim are supposed to be playing.

There is alot of older people there 28+ (lets get a younger crew there).

Ummmmmmmmm what else?!? It used to be an invitation only dance party and the only way you could go to it was if you knew someone who was organizing/working on it.

Thats about it. Smile

Last year this went off (apparently) and this year is gonna be better!! More sound more lights more lasers more colours more more more.... If there is an event that you go to make sure it is this!!!
[quote]
hmmmmm...

was "Mumu" actually & was a tech party by
Reece Hooker, Barry Korf & a whole lot of nice
guys... Reece & Peter Stobard from AVS picked
it up & it was a chill party for technicians "in a
forest near you..."

The whole idea was from "Sticky Buds" (Barry -
often seen running moving lights now a days in
AK with his long ZZTop style beard) & Reece
when they got into Flying Pictures - Laser &
Effects guys who supplied Mountain Rock until
those Woodville types didn't pay a few of us...
that was around 1992 from memory. We
weren't that old in those days - we're all 28+
now!!! But Barry & the boys did play a lot of Pink
Floyd & everyone enjoyed "supplements" that do
sort of resemble the parties of today in NZ.

Gangs??? LoL - yeah right... /me thinks not!

Reece is brilliant & actually lives in an old
asylum type place... the party ain't there... funny
how Chinese whispers go. Much respect to
Barry & Reece - they still know how to excite,
host & surprise!!! Big respect to Reece for
pulling the Mumu into the new age!!!

last year's was HEAVY... most amazing production & sound clarity i ever seen. pity about the music tho Sad

was looking good with fat breaks till about 11:00pm then some twat played 2 hours of fuckin inexcusable cheeze - robert miles, adagio for strings etc.. turning from bad to worse at 1 with a solid 5 hours of mindnumbing hard house and wasnt until it got light again at 7 in the morning and some deep techno biz got pulled out, but that was little consolation

but if fevahs ur bag and u got a spare $125 then u gotta go becos the setup is an experience in itself.. but i wont be Razz
[quote]
and gang run? wtf? gang parties are all about strippers and swappa-crates not hardhouse out in the forest Razz someone's been yankin yer chain
[quote]
firstly gang party ,give me a break.check point is on the 20th jan in a forest about 40min out of wellington. the dj tha ARE playing are rabbit in the moon from the us doing a live act, skol, phil and tara renyolds, matt clarke, k90 , ian mac . when i no more will let you all no. this party has the biggest and best production anyone has ever seen. last year there were 7 lazers, there are more this year.
[quote]
HOLY FUCK !!!!!

Yippeee SKOL is coming back!!! Bring on the Dire Straits track!!! AND IAN MAC!!! My god this is gonna rock!!! WTF Matt Clark?!?!? Phil Reynolds shit this looks better than the line up at Brixton Academy for the tony de vit tribute. Oh and by the way the lasers this time are gonna rock you freaking socks off!!!
[quote]
If all those guys are going to come to CPC then $125 a ticket seems well worth it now

You're right Jeff it would be good to see SKOL again pumping out fat tracks like his 'Dire Straits' one

hmmm.. I think im pretty tempted to go now
[quote]
$125? the one last year was only $80ish?
[quote]
used to be called mu mu land
[quote]
oh, you already established it used to me mu mu land.
well, pooley, looks like i'm def gonna have to flag the BDO for it, last year WENT OFF!!!!
need any dancers or anything!??!!? i'll chuck some gear on and stand on a stand and GO MAD! hehehe
[quote]
yeh last yeh was great although some serious stamina required due to a small hurricane blowing through: I danced all night until the sun came up and then spent 2 days scrubbing the sunglasses panda-eyes from my face due to dust! yup there was serious cheeze and a ghastly hard-trance segment about 4am which lost all but the hardcore. And yes, the gangs (highwaymen) are a background presence, tripping off their heads and generally having a good time.
[quote]
redDeluxe - hurricane!?? jeez i must've been twisted! don't recall that! do recall the gang type doods but they kept to themselves
[quote]
they sure did, all peace, love and happiness on the gang front. If you didn't leave the dance area too much you might not've noticed. we arrived early to make a day of it and watched people struggle with tents etc. ps the increased price is supposedly due to live bands during the day/dance at night. but it's a bit steep huh?
[quote]
Cheers James for some clarity on the issue. Last year CPC went off. It was the best outdoor gig of the year - no question. Those of us lucky enough to go there were still rocking well after the sun was up.

K90 rated it as one of the best things they had been to. Ian Mac was awesome as was Phil Renyolds.
Roll on Welly Ann weekend.
[quote]
RedDeluxe..me thinks you are a year behind...there was no wind this year but the year before, the last MuMu there was an incredible wind, never come across such force...picking up water off lake ferry in huge waterspouts... my fully laden chev truck was being tossed about like a mini in a wellie wind...Worked on 5 MuMu's & helped out with Checkpoint early this year, a must see in a forest near you....you will be surprised....
[quote]
Skol, Matt Clarke and Phil Reynolds...woohoo...I am soooo fucking there.
[quote]
wellll flux, wind there was in 2001. can't compare with other years however. but in all fairness it did die down after midnight, by which stage noone really noticed...
[quote]
One of the DJs I work with says its run by a guy from the Tatou Bar, he reccommend me going to the next one, telling me all about it, having a dance party in the woods, with smoke machines, smimming pools etc.
