What methods do people use to send money home
i just sent some thru my bank ( natwest ) and im sure they gave me a shit deal when it came to exchange rate and not to mention it cost me 10 pounds to do so !

Ive checked out 1stcontact they seem pretty good, with a fee of 7 pounds and use real time exchange rates.

Any others to look out for, preferably able to do it online, standing in those fucking bank queue's is rediculous.

Holborn > lunch time rush hour > 30 people in the queue > 2 bank tellers Rolling Eyes

That's London for ya...they do love their queues don't they!

Sorry can't help with the money transfer thing, I think my brothers do it a similar way, but in bulk...online...

7 pound sounds real cheap for a telegraphic transfer, heck, even 10 pounds does considering it costs $30 AUD for me to do the same and NZ is only just across the ditch!

http://www.ozforex.com.au/ (works for transfers from uk to nz as well I think)

I use http://www.tranzfers.com/ for transfering money to a NZ bank account from the UK. Never had a problem.
[quote]
Yeah I use tranzfers... it's real easy, you transfer money into a UK bank account, and they transfer it into your NZ account... costs you £7 a pop

sweet cheers guys
ill check out transferz

I did a test a while back, using a place that charged a flat £7 fee for any amount, and I also posted a cheque home and had mum bank it there both on the same day.

The result: The cheque came out with about the same rate, and there wasn’t the £7 charge.

For me in terms of ease, popping a cheque in the mail from your UK bank account is the best way too.

hmm my money will never turn up heh
i wrote some postcards to my family while in thailand, and are they still here in the uk 3 months later Very Happy

Does tranzfers.com charge you a fee for recieving the money at your NZ bank account

i got charged 10 pounds on this side, and then got charged 25NZD by my bank to recieve it, fuckers.
[quote]
nope, it's £7 and that's it

yep i use tranzfers to and from both NZ and Aus. damn easy, and at most would take about 3 working days..
[quote]
sending a cheque is probably the cheapest way if a bit slow...

The mail takes about 5 days and then sometimes another 5 days or so for the funds to be available. Be careful trying to draw on the money too soon though because I found out that they can actually take months to clear!

You also would need a parent or someone to be able to deposit the cheque for you in NZ Very Happy

Eh? That's handy!
What's the fee for AUS to NZ transfers?
More for if to a credit card?
And is it just the fee here or does the bank at other end charge too?

Just a follow up on this

I used 1stcontact

I paid the money into there account online with a debit card so i didnt have to leave my desk.
The funds cleared instantly.
I had confirmation of funds being recieved and processed within 1 hour by text and via email.
The funds cleared in my account in new zealand within 23 hours.

This cost me 7 pounds only, no recieving fee's

That is very awesome !
Very impressed.

I'm here to share a little secret with you...
Something that will stop you from taking those annoying journey's to the bank, standing in line for 30 minutes with 1 bank teller, having to fill out those annoying forms every time you want to transfer funds and have £10+ each time.... I'm sure you get the general idea....

Paypal

Open up a UK account to one email address and another account with a NZ Bank account.
Simply send money from one account to another and it will cost you about US$1.50

All completed from your armchair...
[quote]
yea ive thought about paypal to do it, but dont they charge you a fee for conversion , something like 3 percent ?
Which, i think depending on how much u are sending back at anyone time, is more expensive that the likes of 1stcontact which is like 7quid

1st contact takes about 24 hours to show up in nz.

paypal could take up to a week after all the transferring is done ?
[quote]
I don't think that they charge a conversion rate... (not to my knowledge anyway....)

I've had paypal clear from as soon as 1 day, but also up to a few days also... Mind you, if you organise your transfers and don't need the money IMMEDIALTY, who cares?

After reading this post, I decided to give Transferz a go and I was most disappointed with it. I completed the "ticket", they claimed not to have received it. There were issues with ID vertification and one or two other things.... Over 10 days later, my funds were finally transferred offshore.
[quote]
Like ive said, 1stcontact is awesome Smile

As far as im aware you have to deposit the money manually into a bank account with tranzfers ??

With 1st contact u can do it all online with your debit card

for id verification i went down to there new oxford street office, showed em my passport and it was verified right there and then Smile
