CD burning blues

In my industry we often burn stuff to CD for transport to other companies... actually, people usually burn stuff for transport to us... but anyway...

Often files are no more than 30-80mb, and sometimes I have to burn what is known as a cip3 files to CD which is just a crappy little data file no more than a couple of mb (dunno why it even takes up that much space).

Am I the only one who mourns over the massive amount of storage space wasted on CDs by business for one-off transportation?

get a mini cd...

or a rw cd..

or reusable flash drive

or if its only a few meg why not just email it??

how about usb pen drive's?
or again the mini cd's?
but really how much do cd's cost? 40cents?

yea thats what i do as well gamecube but its a bit hard when its to do with work and for someone else like smiley does

Oh yeah, if anyone is vaguely interested in what a cip3 file is, its a data file to help high-end computerised printing presses save ink or something...

I need one of those, my work always have the toner low for our printers, pretty useless, considering that it's a govt dept

heh i thought u meant for like normal workplace printers, you know those big ones that sit in the corner and spit out about 100 pages/minute?
so commercial presses? for newspapers and magazines and stuff?

I wish we have one of those at work so there'll be no queues near those printers

yep, Newspapers, Magazines, Junkmail, brochures, packaging... um, other stuff...

mgc, you wouldn't wanna make plates every time you had something to print..

lol i was just thinkin of that to smiley. u save a few minutes in queues but you spend like 2 hrs makin a plate

Don't worry about the unused space. It doesn't matter. Take Bob's advice and just email the files to them. Would save on the cost of the CDs and postage.

I ftp files that big fairly often but some people dont have the resources to publish files on the internet and a cd in the mail is fine. The CD is probably less wasteful than driving to work in your own car so i dont see it as a big issue really.

I remember hearing about a buring program that could burn an image into the unused part of the CD.

Maybe if you got this program then you would feel a lot better about not filling up that CD with data.
