I read an article in the waikato times, that pretty much stated that the new owners are going to turn it into a dedicated house music only bar.

I also read the article, However I can’t see the glamour girls associated with house wanting to trot down to the dirty Catalyst somehow. The article also seemed to excluded drum and bass as a genre you’ll get to hear there. Stating something like… it being the genre it is renown for…? Seeing that was back when Brian owned it and when people actually went there, it all seems strange.
It’s a shame that with so many d’n’b producers local to the H emerging as formidable international artists there’s no love for a genre that once made catalyst great.
But hey what do I know? Maybe Catalyst can absorb some of the crossover outback type punters.. Time will tell.

its true catalyst is the home of drum and bass and as for turning it into a house club...thats already taken care of in htown Sekure and The loft are premium venues that have that certain style that caters for the house scene.Why not offer punters a variety of music i.e give htown a club that caters to D&B and even more breaks?hard dance is dominated by monkey feather and as said house is sorted.but if house is what they wanna do then thats their thing....Not much room left on the band wagon though..might need a trailer....

Interesting logic this one.... - 'ooh I know, lets promote ourselves as a house only venue, in a city with a small population, that this particular genre is already well catered for, it'll be a winner for sure!'

The previous owner of Catalyst failed for this very reason...... clearly a tried and not true formula.

Just to clarify some of the confusion here. Catalyst will not only be promoting house music. The club will be playing all genres and you will see that with the type of resident djst they have got.

There are 7 djs and they all play a differfent type of music.

The reporter from the paper misquoted some of the content in that article. What she was meant to say was that they were going to start off the night with house progessing onto break later in the night and then onto hardance.

That said and done there are a few events coming up featuring D'N'B and breaks. But there is no set crowd to attend these events. Its all good with people saying they want this type of music but when its on barely anyone comes down and support the club.

If for any reason DNB and breaks are lost in Hamilton will be because the people didnt supports it and not because the club didnt put on the gigs. After all if they can make the money they spend on organiusing a gig like that i dont see why they wont have one on.

re-education time I feel.. forget bout the hay days people.. Time to usher in a new breed of punnters apart from all us oldies from back in the day, who tend to peruse this board and post ocasionaly.

yeah itd be great to get toghther old faces under 1 roof for good nights, but in my humble opinion its about education. Educationg the next generation and possibly creating that same vibe that drew me to MOVE - Motion - Catalyst in the begining.

Soo much time has passed and most of us are moving on from it all anyways in many forms, apart from some of us who cant let go and have carved a lil slice out of it for ourselves and made this a part of our daily existence and job.

Time to get all these emo kids listening to differnt things and the lil hod rats on the street opening they minds too. Hammering the new tech and uni students. They ar the ones that keep ya place running, and have the culture to keep a vibe about it.

Still nothing has been said or done to make me think, yeah I'll head down and check it out. The appeal of a VIP card seems ok.. but I didn't know what it entitled me to, so why bother? I guess I'll have to wait till next month before I head down.. lol

Well this is just stupid, why would you have so many conflicting genres in one night? Far more likely to draw a big crowd if you have specific nights, each genre specific (or a mix of complimentary genres at least)

thankfully some one else saw it and pulled it up... i tottally agree with ya j7 there def needs to be specific nights for each unless ur doing a 2 level party thingee.. its alienationg the crowds who may come down for one style or genre..

Surely most people in the dance scene long enough realise that each dance genre has its own culutre behind it and crew per se, that you associate with..

I couldnt see HardHouse kids or loyal HH'ers into DNB or house, let alone any style of hip hop or breakbeat.. there is an exception to the rule, as i know many open minded people who like all sorts and wil go to all sorts, but i think u will find the majority of the punters who would come to catty or punters you would like to come to catty wouldnt be into having a 'open genre' night..kinda looks like a open dex night or a line up for a 2 level party oooorrr... a weeks and weekends worth of dj's - wed - sat.

again bring the new skool djs thru nd new kids thru, but you stil need to find some consistency. and build up your genres again and the club nights and partys for each of those.

stop whinging and make it happen...whats with the youth of today?

cause they all EMO'd and punked up and out felun... they have been brainwashed into this new emo shit... all the next generation of youth in h-town wear tight as fuck jeans and stripey b/w tee's with converse chucks.

maybe the owners need to look at trying to do some all ages events as well multi genre and bring them into the club in the nextyear or so.. 'get em while they young' approach. or start putting on live bands on thursdays or somethign and one big sat a month.. with local acts and touring acts.. so they can feel like its a place they can go to swell.

In the 6 years that place has been open thru three or four different name changes the biggest consistant crowd pullers have been CONCORD DAWN.
The last gig with Minuit sorta showed that.

In the end of the day it all comes down to making money, and i guess if they play outback style music people will come haha, that seems to be what the majority of hamilton seems to like these days.

what a shame though, only if a few people started coming down and supporting the club i reckon it will eventually build itself up to a new genre of dance club. After all people go where most of the other people go.

Just need to spread the word around that the catalyst actually exists - most people havent even heard of it let alone know where its located.

Theres prolly no shortage or virginal chicks for the lads to peruse, although marraige will ultimately have to follow, sorry to say.

well the saturday just gone was really good
3 other djays and i played electro all night and it was kinda packed i do enjoy mixing there and word will come out that catalyst does exsist
