Finally picked up a new 1210Mk5. *stoked*

Only one, to compliment the CDJ's. For some reason, I thought they came with a basic cartridge, though I was wrong.

What cartridge should I be looking for, and where should I get it? www.styli.co.nz don't seem to have a big range of cartridges. I don't think I'll be doing any scratching on it. I'll probably barely do enough mixing to really warrant having any of the setup Sad

I don't mind spending a bit of money to get quality. From the styli.co.nz range, I was looking at the Ortofon OM 5..

Any suggestions appreciated Smile

The Ortofon OM-5 looks like a good bet money and sound wise. I am however confused by the sales blurb;

---------

Ortofon OM 5 Cartridge From ORTOFON in Denmark. This phono cartridge features standard 13mm (1/2"Wink mounting centres to fit all tone arms and head shells. The cartridge is fitted with a quality spherical diamond stylus to provide a long service life and has a low tracking weight.....

Specifications:
- 20Hz to kHz + 3dB
- Channel separation 22dB
- Elliptical stylus...

----------

A Spherical stylus... no wait! its ellepical!

However, if they say its not suitable for scratching, I'd assume that it is elliptical, which is fine for mixing.
Just bear in mind that with any cart/needle... you have to set them up properly.. provided this is done, all should be mint. Your SL-1210 came with a headshell, right? you'll need one for that type of cartridge.

Isn't the OM-5 a Hifi cart?

The turntables we sell come fitted with 5E's as standard. I wouldn't use them for DJing

Yes, it did come with one, and the 'standard 13mm screw centers' should be fine... Smile

What would the difference be? Why would I not use a particular cartridge for DJing?

I think that you'll find that the cantilever's on Hifi carts would not be up to DJing.

Even if you are not scratching, just cueing up frequently would be too much for your average hifi cart.

There are probably sonic differences too
