The ever-prolific Carl Craig is overdue for a visit to our shores – but in the meantime you’ll have to content yourself with his new double-CD release.

Having recently picked up a Grammy nomination for his remix of Junior Boys’ Like A Child, the Detroit don is issuing Sessions on !K7 (not to be confused with the Ministry Of Sound series of the same name). A little like Ricardo Villalobos’ Fabric 36, both discs are comprised entirely of Carl Craig productions and remixes. And sorry DJs, this one’s mixed too.

Sessions is due to be released on !K7 in late February.

Tracklist

Session 01

01 Directions – Busted Trees (Carl Craig ‘Sessions’ Remix)
02 Junior Boys – Like a Child (Carl Craig Remix)
03 Rhythm & Sound – Poor People Must Work (Carl Craig Remix)
04 Chez Damier – Help Myself (Reconstructed By Carl Craig)
05 Paperclip People – Throw (Unreleased Version)
06 Beanfield – Tides (Carl Craig ‘Sessions’ Remix)
07 Paperclip People – Clear and Present
08 Theo Parrish – Falling Up (Carl Craig Remix)
09 Cesaria Evora – Angola (Carl Craig’s Mix)
10 Francesco Tristano – The Melody (Carl Craig Remix)
11 Delia Gonzales & Gavin Russom – Revelee (Carl Craig ‘Sessions’ Remix)

Session 02

01 69 – Rushed (Original Version)
02 69 – Psychobeat (Previously Unreleased)
03 Xpress2 – Kill 100 (Carl Craig ‘Sessions’ Remix)
04 Tres Demented – Demented (Or Just Crazy) (Original Version)
05 Faze Action – In the Trees (Unreleased Carl Craig Remix)
06 Tres Demented – Brainfreeze (Carl Craig ‘Sessions’ Remix)
07 Carl Craig – Futurelovetheme (Carl Craig ‘Sessions’ Remix)
08 Carl Craig – Sandstorms (Original Version)

Average when he last played here.

He's a phenomenal producer though...

Er, in the progressive forum?

First you try and claim Trentmoller, now Carl Craig?

Did you see him in Welly or AK?

Welly was off the hook, he was layering several parts of tracks live and filtering, cutting, equing and effecting them all into each other - was impressive, as impressive as his skills behind a recording desk. When he drops the actual need to beat match he's a god, however, he's never really bothered to get into the beatmix thing, since he's a producer 9 parts and a dj sort of last, so it takes things away when he's concentrating on that rather than the actual mixer etc...

Anyhow, his set in Ak last everyone I talked to still loved (tho seeing him a few other times and being way more impressed I was in a "sucky old auckland" headspace.... loads of deep rolling tech styles, and a bit of party hits, but mainly a very lush tech sound. Surprised you didn't like it, lot of your tracks wouldn't have gone amiss in there!

Interesting stop-gap before his new album. THo why the prog forum and not the techno forum there Kurt? Razz

Like I said - in regards to production - he is the man.

I have his remix of Goodlife in front of me at the moment.

- This was after Recloose in Auckland (another producer, not DJ) - it was no doubt a combination of technical difficulties, no crowd (a lot of comps though) - all a bit weird.

We left half way through his set - and it was one of those rare nights where I had additional 'aids' to get into the music, so it was a big call...

Yeah - I would much prefer to see him live/abletoning - so he can mess more with the mix...
[quote]
he wasn't abletoning, he was traktoring...
But yeah, the vibe was odd. I can see why you made that call, he only got into the vibe in the last half, the first half was all over the shop, I wasn't into it much, then he just pretty much went 'fuck it' and played some amazing stuff that did all the work for him, so lots of cool synths, deep sub shattering bass and lush chords.

And as for Recloose - if you'd seen him before moving to Welly you'd not have said that, the man has skills to burn on the decks. Pity Welly has brainwashed him Razz
Tho once you're that good, fingers crossed, you can't loose that vibe. Just wish that he had moved to Tokyo, or London or Berlin instead of Welly!!! heh

Ah... true.

Oh well.. Next time maybe... Smile

Recloose - yeah, seem him then, and seen him 'live' - which basically meant he dragged a pile of session musicians on stage with him.

I preferred his more electronica side of things, his first album was wicked.

I can see though, that what he is doing now, probably seems more like 'real music' for him... which is also fair enough.

wonder if he'll be doing a tour for this cd?

My fingers are perpetually crossed that he will make it down here again Smile

I did find him a little underwhelming last time but only cause hey it is Carl Craig so my expectations were massive.

Theo Parrish – Falling Up (Carl Craig Remix)

Was on a Third Ear 10".
Have seen it at Real Groovy and Conch, have a check. There were quite a few copies sold around town, but bugger all djs played it here for some reason, it always smashed the clubs here. Was number 1 in the German sales charts last year... or was that the year before. hmmm...

Great remix.
