a Which are the cheapest cars to insure

b Which are the cheapest when it comes to fixing them or maintaning them

Anyone in car/insurance indies I thank you for your response if any Smile

Cheapest to maintain is a Nissan in my experience. Parts are cheap and they are easy to work on. Very Happy
[quote]
hondas are by far the cheapest in my opinions, parts in nz are dime a dozen and very very economical
[quote]
I heard hondas are shit!

Toyota and Nissan seem to be good.

Any others?

Subaru bad for insurance cos they are the most likely to get stolen.

Opinion varies on which cars are most reliable. It can depend a LOT on the year of the car.
Toyota and Nissan seem to be the common favourites but arguments can be made for honda as well and some people even rate mitsubishis and mazdas. A lot of it can depend on the era of the car and the particular model.

I highly recommend checking www.aa.co.nz for the safety rating of any car you look at.

From my experience...........

Honda Civic, Integra
Toyota - Pretty much anything bar Turbo Diesal imported because the state of the motor is hard to tell
Nissan - Pulsar

And all of these are cheap as chips to insure

Heh i went to state to get my toyota levin 1600 insured, screw that - classed as a high risk vehicle (unfuckingbelievable) AND my 91 1800 nissan primera eejits.

i had better luck with AMI

They use statistics for that so they probably are high risk

AND as per my other thread.

STATION WAGONS

Who owns one

What do you like/dislike about it?
[quote]
Capitals and large fonts, a good way not to get an answer...
[quote]
Station wagons are really cool if you have, like, a dog, a few kids or a lot of luggage....

yes even if its a STI...
[quote]
also useful if you like to help every single one of your friends to move house.

So not worth buying just for accomodation in summer time?

get a sedan with fold down rear seats then you can sleep in the boot. or get a wagon...

dont go honda

most relaible and cheap car imo would be toyota, corollas are great cars for relaibility
[quote]
Yeah cant really go wrong with Toyota in the way of price and reliability. Hondas are alright around reliability as long as u stay away from Vtec, but given that Im a Nissan & Rota fan I'm not to prone to giving Honda too much praise Wink
[quote]
Toyota parts seem to be more expensive than others, especially if you buy genuine. I'd be going Honda or Nissan myself, can't go wrong.... but then again I drive a Mitsubishi and it's been the cheapest thing ever.
[quote]
I have two caronnas at home.

I like the toyota caldina and also the nissan primeras and cos they dont have cam belts I think that would be the cheaper option in the long run.

Only really looked at these above cars and mazda capellas, guess should go to the auctions and see more.

Another reason why people saty with AMI Very Happy

Whats wrong with station wagons lol? I have a Nissan Wingroad CVT with a Neo Engine and it rocks heaps of balls 139kw and yet cheap as on the petrol and cheap to fix, 10x better than my subaru. And not bad on the insurance either. Pink Winky
[quote]
Nissan CVT transmissions are fine if you have sold them by the time that they get to ~150km. If not open your wallet and probably chop an arm off.

Toyotas are pricy for genuine parts but there are plenty of aftermarket parts for them. And the only reason I would worry about timing blets is if you have one due soon as if you take the $600 it would on average cos you over the 80-100km that they last its not even worth worrying about. Caldinas have timing belts too by the way so dont get to comfy with it. Smile

Are station wagons more expensive on gas?

A dealer had said whats the point of driving a wagon if you are not using the boot all the time.
Is this right?> Will I just be wasting gas driving a wagon?
[quote]
slightly, due to the greater weight over the equivalent sedan. in most cases, not a HUGE amount tho.
[quote]
yeah you would be hard pushed to notice the difference in gas usage between the 2, if you are worried about gas then take off in third gear and drive real slow...
[quote]
get the sp20 model...
