Can I get in trouble using open .nz proxies?

Can I get into trouble using open .nz http proxies that i find on lists on the web to use to download big files to get around my cap?

and you mean one that have been hacked or proxies that are intentionally open?

most probably not... it's usually whoever runs that server that's liable (even if it's been hacked)... mind you, these laws change all the time, so ya never know...

I *think* if you know or should have reasonably known a server has been hacked and get gain out of it you can be liable in civil law. The rest gets a bit muddier.

im talking not hacked...as in some admin or something has left it open by accident or forgot to close it

lol hacking doesnt have to be hard to get in, it just refers to someone having access to a 3rd party computer without permission, if you look at the files of a computer over the internet/network you have effectively hacked it in the eyes of the law so my answer to going through open proxies on people you dont have permission from would be...illegal

but hey, its fun

If you really want to get picky "hacking" has nothing to do with breaking into computers. It's an old school programming term that has been warped over the years to be applied to illegal activities.

what Trance_ra was calling 'hacking' I tend to think of as 'cracking'.....

was talking to some dude a wee while ago that if you find an ssh or telnt server and try and get a username/pass IF!!! at the login point it DOESNT!! say something along the lines of "If you are not authorized to use this service...etc" then its fine With proxies I gues its a little different

i tend to think of cracking as getting around security or other issues to do with coding in software rather than hAx0r1ng a computer
