Has anyone noticed the amount of extra cameras that have popped up on the bridge. Between each lane they have got a camera pointing down on the traffic and there on four of the over passes.
So what are they for? Heres one theory- Number plate tracking. If they were digital they could be hooked in to a program to read number plates and keep a record of peoples movements, big brother?

I think tey're just wathing for idiots on the road.No doubt being on the Harbour Bridge can increase the staks in the event of some dickhead causing a crash.

They have shit loads of cameras on the bridge and motorway that monitor the traffic but these new ones (12+) seem an over kill.
The thing is they were toying with the idea of making cars have chips in them so they could charge people who use the bridge. I guess im a little paranoid of bigbrother

so let me understand they can catch u speeding even on the bridge now with those cameras??
gees I think I will pay hips of money soon!

I don't think it'd stand up as evidence, as the public don't officially know about it.
I think it's more for fast response to accidents and such like... and so they can watch YOU everywhere you go.... ;0)

Yeah, like the ones all the way down Ngauranga Gorge in Wellington, eh Lollie?

Maybe theyre short of footage for police stop!?

they have most of the motorway covered now, theres cameras every major intersection too. like tararoto (sp?) and northcross, wairau and tristam.

They wanted to put chips in peoples cars for raod user charges. the chips could be read from satellite... why a petrol tax wouldnt be simpler easier and reward people for economical cars i dont know. except if they wanted to be able to a) tell where you are at all times b) tell if your speeding.

i hope something like this never happens the "if your not doing anything wrong you dont need to worry about it" argument doesnt agree with me.

Bob that was the national governments idea. A transport consultant mate who specialises on `Road pricing` came out at there request to look into it.
he told them to get knotted after he got here as the idea is to get people off the roads and onto busses and trains. As he said there are no reliable busses or trains in NZ so the cars will still have to use the roads and at an increased cost. In other countries they get the busses and trains working as a car alternative before they start charging cars for driving at peak times.

hey I drove past the bridge today and I actually think that those cameras are there only for the traffic.. I don't think they will ever put cameras on the bridge coz the cops are always lasering before or after the bridge..

I think a lot of those cameras are actually for the Harbour bridge climb. They take your photo at various points on the bridge then try and sell them to you when you get back to the depot.
